Magazine Question

I just sent back a mag for my 27 i bought a couple months ago due to some ftf problems... glock had no problems quickly sending me a new mag... now the question...

the new mag i received had a rectangular cut out on the front of the mag showing some metal... is this just a new cosmetic design??? any functional purpose??? any answers???

The cutout is there to accomodate an ambidextrous mag release on those pistols that have it... and for those pistols in the future that will be so equipped.
