Just started playing WoW again. Should have just taken up smoking crack. Got a level 11 night elf hunter. I never played hunter before. My main character back when I played before was a dwarf warrior. I will have to look up the realm when I get home. But it was the lowest population Normal realm. Not a big PvP guy.

You know anyone with a Night Elf Mohawk?
I don't let myself play much any more. I never got hardcore into it -- I always get a character into the mid-20's or low-30's, then get bored and start up a new 'toon -- but it can eat away at your time if you let it.

I just quit playing. I've got a 70 warlock and 70 hunter. I'm pretty good with both classes, but I don't have the time or will to site for hours on end raiding a dungeon I may or may not get loot from. I'm also tired of getting beat by noobs who have no skill but top tier armor. I merely get outlasted. I've been playing TF2 and the various BattleField games lately.
Cool! You should be a dungeon master any day now! :)

I've never played it before but it must be some good stuff. I got guys on my staff who turn down overtime if it happens to fall on a night when they have some huge group battle occuring. I've seen people break social plans and decline dates on the basis that they'll miss some in-game event.
I feel for you. My youngest stepdaughter's boyfriend begged me to come back to WoW after a year's absence. Then she dumped him and I haven't heard from him since. But I now have a level 70 dwarf hunter, a level 20 gnome rogue, and a level 12 night elf druid. If only she had dumped the SOB a couple of months sooner.

I have a Rogue level 70 on Agamaggan. I don't play much though.... a few hours a week.

I've done all of the above. It's brutal, and in the end, totally not worth it. All you have is the semi-prestige of bragging to other WoW nerds about the sweet piece of Tier X armor you got last night.
If some of these kids spent the same amount of time learning to use a martial art that they spend on WoW, we'd be prepped for any medieval zombie situation that could ever pop up.

i know a few people who are "I'm a Gamer Dewd", their life is so wasted....26 years old and living with mom, working at the mall in retail even though they have a college degree in "socialology", no ambition in life except to play a video game....the classic Nintendo generation.

My childhood friend back in Jersey had to repeat a year of college because of WoW. Totally blew off his thesis because he was playing this game for 8 hours a day. Hey, on the plus side his character would allegedly be worth several THOUSAND dollars if he were to put it on ebay... but he ain't selling.

EJECT! EJECT!
I quit WoW right before the first expansion. Had a 60 Gnome Rogue. After one year, I typed /played.... 33 days! One month of the year was GONE.
That was that.
Glad I got out. I prefer single player anyway. Pick up a copy of Mass Effect.
I will be withdrawing from society as soon as Fallout III comes out, however.

Oh dude I'm right there with you. I'm a HUGE fan of the Fallout series. Fallout 2 is probably my favorite RPG of all time.
When Fallout III comes out, I will become a hermit.

I KNOW.
Sweet Jerry Christ, what a game. What an environment. What humor. I thoroughly enjoyed Fallout Tactics as well. I think they took the isometric bit as far as it could go... kind of like Grand Theft Auto did way back when.

Yeah... they did an AMAZING job at conveying such a huge atmosphere in those games. They really did awesome with the post-apocalyptic theme - EVERYTHING was very well done, including the game's soundtrack. Hell, I even have mp3s of all the zone's songs from Fallout II.
And yes, the humor in the game was also fantastic. There was so much ridiculous dialog. So awesome.

I had a brief but raging addiction with an MMO, this was back around 2001ish with Ultima Online (for those not in the know an older but similar game to Wow). I had taken a week of vacation from work with pretty much the intention of just geeking on the game. After a 4 day binge those epilepsy warnings I always read/heard about came to haunt me, I went in to convulsions and couldn't move for what seemed like an hour but I think it was more like 2 or 3 minutes. Never had a seizure before then or since then. Put things into perspective for me. I had an "epiphany" and realized just how much of a waste of time these games are. The only thing you have to show for it is bragging rights to other nerds that spend 90% of their free time playing a game.

WoW accounts aren't worth spit anymore. Unless you have a server full of epic geared level 70's with Gladiator titles, you won't get much more than a hundred dollars if you're lucky. And then with Wrath of the Lich King (aka World of DeathKnight) and the pending release of Warhammer: Age of Reckoning WoW is gonna go down the crapper.
I mean, they say they have over 1M players (1M unique players? Or 1M characters dispersed amongst a couple hundred thousand players?) but if they do indeed have over 1M, at $15 a month per account, that's at least $15M a month. At those rates, you'd think they'd constantly be putting out new content and creating new graphics for armors and weapons. Hell, did any of you see the latest season of gladiator gear? They used the same graphic (different color) for multiple classes. Priest/mage/warlock, warrior/paladin, druid/shaman. Only the hunter got his own unique gear.
That is more or less a slap in the face to the consumer if you ask me. As much as they make on this game and they can't even take the time to keep it interesting and different? Screw that, I'll vote with my wallet.

Like any other hobby, gaming is all about moderation. I'm a gamer. I play MMORPGs, I play regular PC video games, I play on my XBox 360, I even play miniature wargames and role playing games (with dice and whatnot). My wife does all of the above, too -- in fact, we originally met (as friends) on an on-line gaming forum, not unlike Glocktalk for geeks. We attend conventions for gaming and costuming, and generally have a good ol' time with our nerd hobbies.
But I also study Kali and Jeet Kun Do weekly, work out an hour (or more) a day, practice regularly with my firearms, and hold down a full time job that I've had for going on seven years now. I supported my wife through nursing school (she's now a registered nurse), we take care of our dogs, pay all my bills on time, make extra cash on the side writing short fiction, etc, etc, etc. It's quite possible to be a gamer and a well adjusted, financially responsible, adult all at the same time.
I don't log on to a game for 12+ hours at a shot, but I don't think that doing so is any more or less unhealthy for you than just vegging out on a tv watching tv -- which many Americans think is perfectly normal -- for a similar amount of time.
I play MMORPG once in a while still just because I like to check back in and see folks that I played with. They are all still there and still playing....
WoW would just be another addiction and I cannot handle one of those atm.
Crack is about the same. I remember back when Everquest 1 came out. Went to the store with my buddy when he bought it. He pays for it and the guy behind the counter tells him "Here you go, your very own copy of crack in a box. Hope you don't have a life because you wont after you start playing."

Sounds like another addict resigned to his fate. Did he kind of hold on to the box a little too long rather than just stuff it in a bag and hand it to your buddy?

The best part of that episode is Randy trying to play the guitar hero game in his underware, comedy gold I tell you.
I got tired of the game back in March and sold my account. I got $400 off of my 70 Holy Paladin and 70 Frost Mage, both with nearly full arena gear.
God, how did I spend so much time playing that game?
Seriously, get out of the game sooner rather than later. There are tons of better things you could be doing with your time.

Just started in May. Have a 70 Ret Pally, almost full Merciless, a crafted epic peice and a Kara peice. I don't have the time to really gear up, but its fun for a couple of hours a night, plus I can chat with my GF and a few other friends on it.

I see it like any other hobby. I'm sure if I added up my hours spent reading in a year would probably be pretty damn high too. Should I stop reading? Or the time and money I spend watching movies or TV. Perhaps I should give them up too because geez, they're taking up a lot of time.
Some people here would put my wow-playing to shame if they had something like /surfGT.
If I enjoy playing and it's not a true "addiction" then who the hell cares how I spend my free time?

Ive had an addiction to a MUD before but have never played a mmorpg. Im scared to death of WoW and have several friends from highschool that I dont talk to anymore because video games have turned them into losers. Ofcourse moderation is key. I play video games I know how to limit myself.

Heck years ago I played GTA on PSII like a fiend...I had to eventually give away my PSII or my (then) Girlfriend....I chose to give up the PSII....There is no way I would ever start up online gaming...it'd be like an alcoholic at perpetual Happy Hour..
Warhammer head start begins tomorrow. I love my Squig Herder and open field RvR.
Enjoy your grindan gaem.

Going to college broke my crack like dependency. I don't rush right to the computer to play daily, I have homework to do. Now I only play at most 3 times a week for a few hours at a time. I doubt I put in over 6 hours a week now compared to probably 20-30 before.
