I hit the range this afternoon to put some trigger time in on three of my favorite firearms, G-21, Taurus PT-99 AF and Ruger 10/22 with 3-9X scope
While I was there, a fellow shooter let me try his G-19 compact 9mm Glock, overall not a bad gun, a little snappier and whippier than I expected, I would imagine this was most likely due to it's smaller frame
I offered to let him try my 21, but he has small hands, and had to get a minor grip reduction on his 19, he tried to grip my 21, but it was too big for his hands....
How much difference is there between the recoil of the G-19 and G-17, I have been considering trading in my PT-99 for a G-17, as the PT-99 is not as consistent as I'd like it to be, anything beyond 7 yards tends to group badly, at 7 yards I can group about 1/2" with the PT-99, the same distance with the G-21 I can shoot two and three-holers all afternoon, I'm far more accurate with the G-21 than with the PT-99
If .45 ammo wasn't so expensive, I'd just plain sell the PT-99 and stick with the G-21, but I want to have a less expensive practice option that's not a .22
the things I *DO* like about the PT-99 is how it's alloy frame simply soaks up recoil, the PT-99's recoil is more of a gentle push back with a slight lift at the end, kinda' like a mix between the snap of the G-19 and the push of the G-21, also, the balance point of the PT-99 stays more or less centered, when I shot the G-19, I noticed the balance shift towards the muzzle as the mag emptied
The 17 is a bigger gun, closer to the 21, and I do not notice a balance shift on the 21 as the mag empties
I'd like a 9mm Glock that has a more .45-esque "push" recoil and that doesn't have a balance shift as the mag empties, is the G-17 that gun?
If it wasn't for the longer range inaccuracy of the PT-99, I'd be happy with it, but it groups too wide for my taste, my G-21 groups nice and close whatever the distance (within reason)
Is this more of an ammo issue, perhaps, which is flatter shooting, the 9mm or .45 (please, lets keep the caliber wars out of here, the only comparison I want to see here is which cartridge has a flatter trajectory?)
