On April 21, 2008 I weighed myself and I was at 310 pounds. I stood there shocked and decided it is time to do something about it. I started eating the right kinds of foods and working out. I started with some weights and riding an exercise bike 40 minutes four days a week. Now, I have a weight bench and several bars, and I walk a treadmill for 5 miles four to five days a week. I have got my time down to 69 minutes to do the five miles. Today, I weighed myself and I am down to 210 pounds. I can't believe I lost 100 pounds in less than five months. While I still want to lose another 20 to 25 pounds, I am so happy to have hit the 100 pound mark. This is a milestone for me, I have not seen this weight in over 15 years. I went from a TIGHT size 46 to a loose 38 (almost ready for size 36 pants)

I can't take all the credit. My wife has been great during all this. She supports my weight loss. She is always looking for the best foods for me, and goes to a lot of trouble to make sure that the meals she makes me are as healthy as possible. She will even make me a separate meal if her and the kids want something else. She has also been there to nudge me when I have been tempted to blow it. My diet has not been real strict. I just stayed away from fried foods and sweets. The main thing was to watch my portion control. I use to eat till I was so full I hurt, now I eat to live not for recreation. My wife has also not complained about my time in the garage working out. She even schedules things around my workout. My wife is the best.

I know this is a gun forum, but I just had to tell someone.

Congrats! Keep it up.

My dad lost 98 pounds, many many years ago. He's kept it off since then, too. He's 56 years old and you would never guess it.

Good job. Im sure your wife appreciates your weight loss more than you do her help. Less laundry for her to do, less food to cook, and less weight crushing her.

You will be all the way there as soon as you stop calling it a diet and know that its a new life style you now lead.

I think that's absolutely wonderful! :hugs:

My only concern is that you lost over 20 lbs a month.....5 lbs per week. That's very fast and drastic. Have you checked in with your doctor just to monitor your progress and see if you're getting enough calories? Kudos to you!!

I can normally do 4-5 pounds per month, even after that initial "shock" wears off. I've been busting my ass of in the gym the last three months now and numbers-wise I've dropped fifty, but I've gained quite a bit of muscle.

I need to start ratcheting up the cardio and quit the nomming when I'm at work.

I love these type of threads. This is what the GNG forum is for, non gun discussions. G-19, thanks for telling us, great news. I have some questions, but I am on my way to a buffet. LOL ;)

Thanks for all the replies.

Tristan, I feel better than I have in years. I take vitamins to help also.

Mugatu, that is not funny....ok, yes it is. That is one place I avoid. Buffets are one place I aways over ate. You have to get your moneys worth.

You sir, are the man. Congrats!! 100lbs is huge, no pun intended.

I recently lost 23lbs myself. Went from drinking 5 or 6 sodas a day and replaced it with water instead.

Im at 210 right now and my target weight is in the 150 range and or drop 3" off the waist I would prefer both . I'm kinda pressed for time and this seems like an impossible task that I want.

I wish I could get a grasp on it.

Maybe if I walk 20 miles a day and consume nothing but water for a month I bet I could lose at least 30lbs....

Clueless..........

Great work. I know it’s not easy. You have to change your eating habits – which you have – and the way you think about food. Very tough.

Something I’ve wondered about: What are the things that trigger that, “Oh CRAP!!” moment when you know it’s time to do something about your body?
For me, it was when I got into the pool one day, looked down and saw my belly hanging over my waistband. Too much belly. Not good. Going in the wrong direction. Don’t want to look like my father. Oh CRAP!!

That was 30+ years ago. Changing from eat-anything-I-want-and-only-exercise-enough-to-pass-the-annual-PT-test to the way I eat now took a lot of time and effort. It’s worth it, though.

Stick with it. Know that you’ll backslide a little every now and then, but you can get to where you need to be.

Luck.

That is fantastic ! Good for you.

Is your treadmill in our home or garage ? The reason I ask is that I have an opportunity to get a very expensive treadmill from my Dad for free and I don't have room in my house for it. I was wondering if it would be ok to use in the garage in the Houston heat. I'll probably go for it.
