Anyone have these type vest? What do you use them for? I was looking at some, to attach mag pouches for my AR's. Is this too Mall Nina?

Unless all hell breaks loose or you are at a training course, it is VERY Mall Ninja.

Not really - everyone (vets and non vets) should participate in training. Sometimes the local guard units like to train with civi's for situations. No one knows what may happen - and it is in the best interests of every firearm owner to be prepared.
Now is it required to own a MOLLE vest for this kind of SHTF situation? Probably not - but it would make things easier and less of a strain on local Civil Defense.

These desert USGI MOLLE II vests that have hit the market are amazing.
I have ALICE gear, a Tactical Tailor MAV with X-Harness, an ATS Tactical chest rig, none of them even come close to these vests. I got mine for $30 shipped with eight USGI MOLLE pouches. I think it was the best deal I've ever gotten.

Yep cheaperthandirt.com. I made some adjustments to it - and you really do have to costomise it - but not bad for $50.

LOL what a waste of money. Thats why the military issues A and C bags - not to mention ruck sacks . The essentials for a garrison environment are just a rife, vest, hydration etc.

I'll stick with my Alice gear. I doubt that wearing a Molle vest is going to turn me into a Delta Force Commando.

I'll give you they are useful - and the MOLLE II's are real nice.
But if you go walking around town in one, all decked out - expect to get picked up.

Yeah ... Actually you "can" do that in my state but you would get laughed at by law enforcement. I would probably laugh at you and then call in a 10-96 (possible mental subject). I remember when my sup told me about a guy who walked down the sidewalk with a freaking SWORD on his back! Legal here - but WTF would you do something like that? Seriously!

I've got almost the same one and from the same place .
I'm no Mall Ninja; it's just useful if you plan on roaming around on your buddy's land, etc.

I use a TT MAV by choice (1pc with X Harness), we had the old Blackhawk non MOLLE vests issued (and I wasn't a real fan, but they worked).
If you're not wearing body armor, or soft armor only the vests work fine, with plates in, they're kind of a PITA. I prefer a chest rig from experience.

Compared to these surplus MOLLE vests, the TT MAV with x-harness is better padded on the shoulders. However, the problem with it is that the body of it is so flimsy that the pouches stab me in the torso through the body of it. The MOLLE vest is really thick where you attach the pouches. The USGI vest is also quicker to don. Moreover, I find USGI pouches to be superior to TT pouches. This is all without body armor though. I think a chest rig is a better proposition with armor.

I have two. For no good reason other than I love to take training courses when I can. My door kickin days are pretty much over.
One is was made by Blackwater the other by Blackhawk. Both are really nice.

Yea I dont remember what our vests were called but the one I have now works well with my level IIIA vest and IV plates - just freakishly heavy

Probably was an SCA event going on. Sort of like Civil War Reenactors only its for the middle ages. The armored combat is a lot of fun.

There is a huge event in August that takes place north of Pittsburg. Definitely a rush taking part in a battle with thousands of participants.

It is.....haven't gotten to Pennsic myself yet, but that's because I enlisted.
www.sca.org if you're really interested. Nothing like going full contact, full speed, in armor, and not getting more than bruises.
Andrewsky, the MAV is intended to be worn with armor, which is why it's not very thick (doesn't need to be) or padded.
Most USGI pouches I've dealt with on the FLC, etc will work, but they're not the greatest. Eagle, TT, Extreme Gear Labs, and various other makers are far better. OSOE (John Willis) makes the best stuff out there, but it's not cheap (i've had him make me some small stuff).
