:patriot:

Sure is - it's a 6" dating from about 1955 or 56. It was given to me by my Dad's lifelong friend (who is still living at age 97). This WWII vet also gave my brother the 1911 .45 he carried in North Africa and when he was a "Hump" pilot in the CBI Theatre. He included the shoulder holster rig, ammo pouch, and a 1944 photo of himself wearing the weapon.

That's some great stuff! If you haven't done so, that should be typed up and signed by him, that's great provenance that should stay with the gun. I hope your brother hasn't done anything to the gun like having it reblued or altering it.

Heck, we'd even look at pics of it all if you can get them! :)

A nice, closeup pic of that Sentinel (like the one's in the other thread) would be a good thing too!

And the auto pistol between the two NA mini's....is that a .35 Remington?

:patriot:

The family friend already wrote a one page description of the 1911 and a brief synopsis of his wartime career. It is signed & notarized. This pistol will not be refurbished - our family has been collecting guns for 50+ years.

I'll see if my brother will email a pic, but he's pretty scarce a lot of the time.

He also has an 1858 Remington Navy .36 revolver converted to .38 rimfire with the original "slimjim" holster, belt, cartridge case, and full box of .38rf cartridges - it has 70+% blue left on the bbl.. That gun belonged to another family friend's father who was some kind of deputy in rural 19th century Missouri (no written provenance on that one, just oral). The Remington was used to accidentally kill a suspect, according to the old gent who gave it to my late Dad.

The auto between the minis is a Remington Model 51 .380. It was carried by my wife's grandpa in the 1930s & 40s here in Texas. Still have the original box (falling apart) with all the papers. It's an excellent CCW - very slim and has the most comfortable grip of any pistol I've ever handled. Remington ceased production of these fine little guns about 1936, I think.

Right before my father-in-law passed away in 1982, somebody with his maid service stole the 1911 .45 that he carried from the Sicily campaign to Italy in WWII.

The .45 model of 1950 Army gets shot a lot, really enjoy it. The other 2 , not so much. The Heavy Duty is an Arkansas State Police issue and the .44 Military was the service revolver of a Sheriff in Eastern Arkansas. He had good taste in revolvers.

Sweet, so whats your favorite 1911 then? As far as tight/smooth slide fit and function, and a good clean light trigger pull, and just overall? Am I headed the right direction with EB?

Can't say I have a favorite, but it would be a custom model for sure.

As far as Ed Brown is concerned, they're very fine semi custom 1911s.

Which one are you looking at?

Well great...now I have to buy the M&P15-22 as my next suppressor host....thanks alot!

You're welcome! :tongueout:

BTW, make sure you get the version w/the flash hider from the factory. This way the barrel is already threaded for a suppressor. I won mine in a drawing at our indoor range so I didn't have any choice and got one of the sans F models that have a bull barrel. Had to thread the bbl so if you have the choice up front it will save you the effort afterward. Just saying...

A very useful caliber here in Alaska. With large brown and black bears, and moose, it's a good large bore caliber.

Thanks guys!

My primary focus is on S&W revolvers. I've picked up a 5" model 10 since that photo and have a couple of N frames on layaway at the moment. I got the M&P-15 in case another ban gets imposed. The 1066 was not on my list at all. But both the third gen S&W's and 10mm chambering have always intrigued me. I'm glad I got it, it's a great shooter. I'll probably pick up a few more 3rd gens as time goes by, the revolvers will always be at the center of my collection.
