I use a TriStar Cobra Force pump shotgun with tactical grip and red dot scope. In the event that my Red Dot fails, I can still see the ghost ring sights through the Red Dot lens.
It hangs on a bolted wall mount and I run a steel cable through the trigger guard when I leave the house, or when I have company. Here are some pics:

I have the same 870 as you. I just put a primary arms micro red dot on it. So it has stood up to the recoil of approximately 400 rounds of both buck and slug. Its low enough to still be able to get a good check weld. I like it so far and only cost around $85 shipped.

I know, I have one. ;)
I appreciate the link either way. That doesn't look like a Mesa unit. There is zero gap between the receiver and the adapter, whereas the MT high tube adapter creates a visible gap with an 870.
Maybe I'm going nuts. :dunno:

Picked up a nice, used 870 Police a couple of months ago. But this post is about the Blackhawk! Knoxx Spec-Ops Stock, Generation II. Just placed my order (great deal, too) for the stock, forend and cheek piece/shell carrier. They'll ship straight from Blackhawk on Wednesday, August 31, the day they're released.
Improved recoil reduction, better grip, seven-position adjustment, three sling mount options included, and an actual LimbSaver pad. Here's a YouTube about it:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eMtMHc5qNw8
I got the Mossy Oak Break-Up camo, 'cause if all goes as planned, I'll be shooting at a lot of geese and turkeys. And paper targets don't care what the plastic looks like, anyhow.
Here's the guy with the deal:
http://www.emergencyresponderproducts.com/blknspshstge.html
I'll post some pics when it arrives.
My photographic skills are nill, but here's my Mossberg 930 SPX. Mods include Nordic Comp bolt handle, light mount, shell follower, and upgraded spring. Safariland 2 shell holder. GG&G sling mount and standard AR sling(which works perfectly). Insight WX-150 is mounted to the Nordic clamp. Zero issues with this Gen 1 SPX, barrel was perfect from the factory. Only thing I will change is the LOP from 14.0 to 12.5-13.0. If you are on the fence I would jump off, I sold a Benelli M1 tactical and bought this. The M1 needs gorilla arms to hold when you have gear on. Just my opinion.

VERY good looking shotgun you got. If changing the LOP to 13" was a simple "stock change", i'd be all over one of these. Why they make a tactical shotgun so dang long is just beyond me. Mossberg, FNH, Benelli.... they all are way too long for tactical use. S T U P I D IMHO
I have absolutely pathetic photography skills. But here's my Remington 870. It came stock with the door breech/ muzzle brake and assault stock. I tried to only add things that would make it a better weapon, no "fluff". I added the Tacstar shell holder, Wilson Combat +2 mag extension, XS Big Dot tritium sight, Elzetta light mount with 130-lumen Streamlight Polytac, and jumbo head safety switch. I'm still trying to decide if I want to have the barrel Magnaported. I'm about 75% in favor. As it stands, I LOVE it. BTW, I load it with Remington #1 buckshot.

What's up with the reduced LOP stocks? What does this accomplish?
If you shoot with body armor/plates on or if you shoot square to the target, ala "CQB" (I do both), it allows a more normal sight picture. With regular stocks, at least for me, it pushes the gun from a LOP of 14" to 15.5" which shoots like crap for me. That's my preference, and my opinion, plenty of folks like the standard stocks...
It makes the gun fit properly when wearing heavy clothing, armor, or both.

Or if you're a thick chested MoFo like me!
I run my AR's almost fully collapsed and generally just one click out. I'm much more comfortable with a shorter stock.

I run my AR two clicks out(12" LOP). I prefer a 13" LOP shotgun. I think it partly due to the fact that I am 5'7".

I'm 5'8" and I run my ARs 1 click out and cut my shotgun so it's a hair under 12" with a 1" Limbsaver pad. More comfortable both in and out of armor for me.
Well, it's not Tac'ed out to the hilt, but I love it. Short, light, simple.

What's up with the reduced LOP stocks? What does this accomplish?
If your are wearing body armor, (L/E), it allows you to keep weapon "close" to your shoulder, as though you were not wearing armor.
For people with shorter arms, women, some men, it makes shooting the shotgun much easier.

Have you tried a shotgun with a shorter LOP? Lots of the long armed fellows I shoot with have liked the shorter LOP on my shotgun. Try it, it's just more comfortable to be able to tuck a shotgun closer to your body.

A "shotty" ? Not laughing "with" you bro. Laughing "at" you. ;)
A "shotty" ? Not laughing "with" you bro. Laughing "at" you. ;)
Just a guess, but if the "shotty" you're laughing at is mine... laugh away. :tongueout:
IMO, piling on lasers, rails, & the like do not make a useful, or "tactical" weapon. A gun that is modified to suit the specific needs of the user however, is useful.
My 870 has two purposes in life. HD, and it rides along with me when I'm going out to buy vintage cars, which usually leads me into the boonies, or into the rougher parts of town.
In my house, I have very narrow hallways, that cut sharply off to the bedrooms, living room. I can maneuver, and get on target, much easier with this gun, than one with a stock or full length barrel.
On car hunts, the gun is in my car, which is a Mustang. If I need the gun, I need it quick, fast, & in a hurry. Ever try to rush a full size shotgun out of a Mustang?
So while I am aware of the stigma attached to owning a "shotty"... I set this gun up to suit my needs, and it does just that. I didn't do it because it "looks cool". Because I honestly think it looks stupid, lol.
But it's perfect for what I want it for.

The Hogue 12" LOP stock is the best thing I put on my Mossy. I was actually thinking of selling it when I shot it with the regular 14" stock. But the shorter stock makes it so much more maneuverable and comfortable. I can shoot it with more of a squared up, solid stance, instead of a bladed stance, so recoil actually feels much less. I don't wear body armor and probably have pretty average size arms at 5'9".

This is my primary HD shotgun. An 870 build that I just kept modifying until I liked everything about it:
870 reciever
Mesa Tactical Hi tube mount
Hydraulic buffer tube (mil spec)
Magpul CTR stock
Magpul MIAD grip
Mesa Tactical 4 shot side saddle
Mapgpul sling attachment
Vang Comp Barrel (highly recommended)
Gen 1 Surefire fore-end that I stippled for a better grip. Looked and tried the new ones but I thought they were too slippery when wet, muddy, et (I do a lot of outdoor training with this gun.
Only 3 things left to do:
Cerakote all the metal
Upgrade the lamp assembly to the LED unit on the Surefire
Get a permanent optic for it. Likely the Aimpoint CompM3.

I'd like a mag extension...but that gun is plenty heavy already up front and one-armed manipulation is a chore. And for the record, I am not exactly weak. So I dont want any more weight there.
And besides if you are in a HD situation and need more than a normal tube will hold...you're bigger concern should be calling in an airstrike. ;)

Shoots damn good folded up, and a folder is an issue with anything more than one stick mag, without one of them fancy folding mechanisms designed for drums.:whistling:

Thanks, bud! No one noticed the homemade shell stop :miff:
I used a 1" scope ring, a wooden dowel cut at an angle, and a screwed in rubber bumper. It can easily be adjusted to accomodate 3" shells. Recoil can cause shells to fly out of the secondary, so I was told.

After a bit, I will. The reason I did it, was the mag coupler and double baseplate came as a kit from Arredondo, and also came with a metal shell stop. The reciever has to be drilled and tapped for it, and I'm not willing to do that. I also like shooting magnum shells, and the Arredondo shell stop is not adjustable. Either do without magnums, or mount it farther forward, and potentially deal with the top shell coming loose.
I just got this 20 ga. Remington from my LGS for $335. I'm thinking of leaving it stock, but the Knoxx Specops is tempting me.

Mossberg 835 Ultra-Mag Crown Grade
w/ 3 1/2" Chamber.
w/ Parkerized finish.
Later modifications;
18" Model 590 Accu-choke barrel which has been bored to accept 3 1/2" shells.
Custom milled receiver end block to accept an AR15 pistol grip and adjustable stock.
I built this before Tactical Shotguns were a big thing. Even before Wilson Combat bought out Scattergun Technologies.

Are you brave / foolish enough to try?
At the end of the day this Mossberg 835/590 Hybrid will shoot any 12Ga. shell from 1 1/2" all the way out to a 3 1/2" Super Mags. Right now it has a M1913 Rail mounted on the top with a Red Dot sighted for 2 3/4" Slugs @ about 50 yards. This set-up is great for 00-Buck at close range.

M1A Shooter, That is my problem with Mossberg. The 835 is a Turkey gun, and they do not want to blur that line. Mossberg told me It was not possible to mount the 590 barrel to the 835 receiver. After years of dealing with Mossberg regarding this shotgun, I'm fed up. Their customer service is full of brainless script readers. They hire folks who have no idea what Mossberg sells or doesn't sell. Mossberg lists stuff in their catalog that they don't sell separately from a complete shotgun. It is aggravating.
From here on out I will be purchasing Remington 870's.

Well it can move 90 degrees left or Right and it hooks under your forearm, adding leverage, allowing you to shot it with one hand..or you could use it as a carry handle.

The stock parts were made out of a nylon molded material
That become brittle over the years.
I plan on having a few dozen parts made and
Will sell them since there is only one guy selling parts.
I admire your choice in beverage sir. Nice shot gun and the A team looks great!!! Why has it not been fired in 29 years?!
Thanks, I love SHINER!!! Oh! and the SBR and the Ed Brown are OK also!
And the reason it went unfired the Original owner had 3 Spas... One he shot a lot(the HeLL out of it) and Sold for what he paid for all 3 Back in the Eighties..
Then he Sold me Mine and is Keeping the Last NIB for himself..
Mine came without a box..

Don't currently have one but I've been thinking about getting one soon so I'm tagged for ideas and looking at the cool pics.
Sent from my IGlock 4s
...and the "after" pics. It was an inexpensive little impulse buy, but is in great shape and someone had already shortened the barrel a bit to add the dial-o-duck, so a no brainer and no harm in sending it to be made proper Riot Gun length. There is a bit of surface rust here and there, but not much for a 69-year old field gun. Took the wood off and there is no cracking, splitting or chipping at all (big deal on old Ithacas). I'll get it all apart in soon and get to clean all the crud out of it. Thing is in great shape and an absolute blast to shoot; really surprised more people aren't picking these things up for fun guns - they're very robust, plentiful and inexpensive.

Hey thanks. I believe I do, but of coarse, I still have more work to do. I've put a lot of thought into what's in this picture and the purpose of each tool. I feel like a Remington 700 is a necessary addition, just haven't decided. I also have bows and arrows that I am better at using than these, to preserve ammo in a time like SHTF or something els. Thanks for commenting.

05-27-2012, 13:10
Tvov - Yes, that's a bolt action. It holds a 2 shot magazine, plus 1 in the chamber. It also has a C-Lect Choke. Nice old shotgun. My dad got it for HD back when I was a small child, or toddler, maybe about 1954-55, due to prowlers in the neighborhood. I refinished the stock (formerly oiled wood) with TrueOil, and had the metal parts bright and black chromed. I used it to hunt bird and rabbits when I was a teenager, but it hasn't seen much use in at least 40-41 years.

I've shot one like this in .410, but it didn't like to feed all that well. Every now and then you'd get rim-lock, or it just wouldn't pop out of the magazine right. Gun was beat up though. Neat concept.
Picked this one up at the LGS as I didn't have a shotgun in the house.
Might come in handy, given future uncertainty.
This came with a Knoxx(?) M4 type stock.
I actually prefer a regular stock on a shotgun, however.
Ordered up a Speedfeed sport style that's now out for a camo dip.

Looks nice! I like the guitar hanger idea.
I still don't understand why people use AFGs like that though. They are designed to assist with an aggressive forearm-forward, thumb around the top of the handguard grip. Don't really see how that's possible with a shotgun and even if it is, putting your thumb on top of the barrel would be a BAD idea during firing.

Thanks, I sold a guitar, and had a hanger left, so it only seemed right to use it for the HD gun .
The AFG is just there to experiment with... I had it laying around with some AR parts, so I figured I'd see how it feels. So far, I don't like it much, but I figure I'll at least try it at the range first.
I've been wanting to try an afg also, but to many other projects. Good looking shot gun either way.

My current (work in progress) setups for both my 12 gauges. NEF Pardner has a 5 shot shell sleeve filled with 00 Buck, recoil pad (not pictured), and a green TruGlo Fiberoptic front sight, 28" full choke barrel. Currently also serves as my trap/skeet gun. My Winchester 1300 is a Ranger modelwith a 22" smooth cylinder deer slug barrel with rifle sights. Currently has see through (not pictured) scope rings with a Simmons ProDiamond shotgun scope mounted, and a solid recoil pad as well. Holds 4+1 of Remington Managed Recoil 00 Buck. Looking to mount slings with extra shell holders on both, and maybe a mag extension for the pump. I'm all about wood stocks... I like old school, so they aren't exactly "tactical". I'll get there eventually. Maybe.

I don't see how they work on a shotgun as you're supposed to wrap your thumb over the barrel.
I don't see how they work on a shotgun as you're supposed to wrap your thumb over the barrel.
I looked at some of the Magpul videos where their two instructor guys are using them. They are laying their thumb parallel to the barrel, extended forward and resting on the fore grip. I think they are going for grip consistency since it looks similar to a thumbs forward position with a pistol.

I don't think it's any better or worse based on what I saw in the videos and "looks" a bit strange to me however if it works for them or someone else, more power to them.

Ding ding! That's exactly the look I was goin for. I'm interested in their loop sling they had over the back of the butt, I've only ever seen 1 pic of it. It was just a strip of leather, screwed to the top and bottom of the buttstock, and looped over the shoulder. Simple enough to recreate, but I may just go with a traditional sling.
Although, mine's of legal length. 18" barrel and 35" OAL, without a recoil pad installed.
Hers was also a 20ga, but, Barrow used a 12ga
