well it's mainly used for home defense so a flashlight is a must and for me its easier to put a red dot on something than line up sights.
Got this last month and added the ATI AR stock...
http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/mm13/postanon/IMG_1198.jpg
Not a fan of the stock, so I currently have on order a Knoxx SpecOps. Also have on order a Mesa 6 shell carrier, Hogue Handall and Hogue forend. I hate waiting. I'll post updated pics when it all come in.
http://inlinethumb05.webshots.com/18884/2737847850101036593S500x500Q85.jpg (http://good-times.webshots.com/photo/2737847850101036593yGhzvA)
It now has a Speedfeed Butt Stock. I need to find a good tactical sling for it.
I guess peopel would be bored with mine. I have a Mossberg 500 with 20" barrel and factory 7 round mag tube. I trimmed the stock down to 13" and added a Surefire light.
My Hogue forend and Mesa carrier came in last week and I got them put on. Very happy with them. UPS man brought my Knoxx stock today. Wow, very impressed with it, can't wait to get home and get it put on. It's a little heavy though, but solid. I'll post an updated pic later this evening when I get the chance.
Done. Here's the pic:

nothing to do with your shotgun (which looks great) but do you know if that 10/22 stock can be purchased anywhere than besides with the gun. i must have one of those stocks.

I saw one on eBay a couple of days ago. You might check there.

It is a Remington Marine Magnum purchased in 1995. The front sight is a Scattergun Tech tritium sight, the rear sight is a nickeled, MMC adjustable ghost ring tritium. The barrel is Vang Comp'd with the porting along with the sights being installed by Vang Comp. The fore end is an older Surefire 618 with a textured applique applied by T.J. Ryan of Pittsburgh, PA for a grippier surface(I don't know if he is in business anymore). I installed an oversized safety and smoothed the action with very lightly abrasive compound, although when it came back from Vang Comp it felt smoother even though I didn't request or pay for an action type job. The stock was, at the time of the picture, an adjustable length Choate style that I further cut shorter with a shop saw for a 12.5" length of pull. The stock has since been replaced by a Remington "youth" stock that gives the same length of pull in a nicer package. The sling is a Giles three point while the buttstock shell carrier is a Blackhawk I believe.
As for the porting, I generally like it and feels it contributes to decreased muzzle rise however it it purely subjective. I will say that cleaning the porting is a pain the butt, so be aware. That being said, it is awfully heavy but dead nuts reliable and would serve as a very useful club if needed! Built like a tank, weighs like one and is more reliable.

I'd just yank off the rear ghost ring on the receiver and keep the barrel.

Buyer beware, if you put a Surefire forend on your shotgun, it will get real heavy real quick. One time I stripped my 870 down to stock and was amazed at how light it was, even loaded. Then I put it all back on and realized it wasn't recoil that made me sore. It was just holding the gun up. A heavier setup does decreases muzzle climb, so a cheaper alternative to barrel porting is attaching lead weights to the front of the gun. It should work.

The Surefire fore end was the least of the weight issue. I went from a Beretta 1201FP, with it's lightweight, polymer/aluminum/mystery metal construction, to the Marine Magnum, with it's all steel, super heavy construction. The fact that I added the fore end was the least of my weight issues at the time. Either way, the 870 will be around and performing many years after the Beretta, IMO.

870s will last, no questions asked. For me, I took mine out on a coyote hunting escapade that lasted all evening and well into the early morning. When you're trekking through hilly terrain in the dark, every ounce matters. That forend started making the gun pretty heavy. However, I should've had the sense to unload the sidesaddle, stock saddle, and take off the magazine extension before I went. Either way, I'll keep the Surefire on it for good except for turkey hunting. It's always nice to be able to blast 65 lumens exactly where you're pointing.

Thanks. I'll definitely have to grab one of those. The P60 (65 lumens) is plenty for HD ranges, but for the woods, 235 lumens would be really nice, and the runtime is longer than with the P60 bulb.

Those are actually Trijicon 3-dot tritium sights...I don't know that there's any significant difference between them and the ghost ring as far as accuracy goes, but the Track-Loks are definitely more robust.

Added 20" barrel and ATI collapsible stock and forend. I like it.
All I did to the bottom one was swap the two foot long forend for a smaller one.

I love that M1.
There are a few over at Gunbroker. I have only seen the prices go up. If you buy, be sure to get the HK Benellis. The ghost ring sight is different, and you can get one extra round in the gun by loading one on the feed tray for a total of 9. The newer M1's only load 8. Here is a NIB (without the extension or pistol grip)

I have a M1 with the 24 inch barrel that I bet doesn't have 30 rounds through it. It sits in the corner and is as stock as it came from the factory. EVERY time I watch Tom Knapp, Benelli's sponsored trick shooter, with his M2 with mag extension, I want to send mine off and have about 3 inches taken off the barrel, re-threaded for choke tubes and add the mag extension. Then I would be good to go. I don't think losing that 3 inches would affect it that much if I then took it out squirrel, rabbit, or bird hunting or shooting clay pigeons. Of course if Benelli didn't price their freakin' barrels so damn much I'd just buy a shorter one.

Just picked up a Mossberg Maverick 88 Security for home defense. Was originally going to get a Mossberg 500, but I compared both at the store and there wasn't much difference other than the safety and trigger group. Even though the 500's parts are made in the US, that wasn't enough of a reason for me to warrant the higher price. I also picked up an ATI stock and heat shield, as well as an Uncle Mike's side saddle. I also mounted my TLR-2 for ****s and giggles. I find it funny that the weapon light is worth more than the gun. Can't wait to hit the range tomorrow to test her out.

Krab,

Call Tufloc tomorrow and find out.
The rack is mounted through a 6" wood wall using breakaway hardware. One would need a chainsaw to remove the rack and then they would have to break open the Medeco high security lock.

When I was installing the front sight, the threads were right, but the depth was not. It would stop at about 1/4 turn past zero. So I went to the local ACE hardware and picked up a nylon washer. After a bit of sanding to get it to tighten at zero, and place a dab of red loctite, it's all good!

Remington 870 - 20" barrell, 7+1.
I walked in today to look at a new Mossberg Maverick 88 HD and ended up finding a used Mossberg 500A for $163.
I asked the owner/gun smith what he felf about cutting the barrel and he pulled out a used 20" barrel with terribly welded home made sights someone traded. He switched the barrels and told me $125 and he attached a brand new 6 round side saddle for $20. He cleaned and attached the 20" barrel and took the magazine plug out. So it holds 5 plus 1.
I would have prefered the safety on the trigger, but my bird guns all have the safety on top so I am used to it. So for $145 I think I did pretty good. All I am going to add is an under barrel mounted laser sight. I do not have pics yet.<!-- / message -->

Very nice.
Thanks. I have ordered XS express sights that mount in place of the rifle sight on my 20" 870. I ordered the BIG dot and I am hoping that it is not TOO big. I mainly use this gun in three gun matches.

This is a stock pic of my 13 yr olds H&R 20 guage. I was testing the used Mossberg 500 I bought so we shot together and had a great time. But he was shooting tighter groups with this than my Mossberg 500 12g. with a cut down 20" barrel! It got me thinking about him, my daughter and wife when I am not home. So I started thinking about looking into Mossbergs 20g. youth pump or H&R now makes a 20g. pump. Get a car load of foreclosed, out of work, hungry people trying to break in and I'd rather have something everyone in the house can pick up and use if needed.
As for keeping with the OP, the best tactical weapon is the one that works and gets the job done. Here is a true story. When I was in high school a friends parents were away leaving him home alone to go to school. He was 15-16 at the time. [this goes back over 20 yrs ago] 2 men broke into his house and locked him in the bathroom while they ransacked the place. My friend thought that they had left so he came out of the bathroom. He got his single shot 20 guage out of his closet, and loaded it and started to leave the house. Going out the front door, one of the criminals was coming back in. My friend had his barrel down and trying to raise it pulled the trigger and blew the bad guys thumb off. Both bad guys ran and drove away. Maybe not the best choice, but I think that makes the shot gun pictured below a tatical shot gun.

Before the tung oil did you take any finish off chemically or fine sanding? And did you hand rub in the tung oil? I just bought an old Mossberg 500 I need to redo. Thank you

Mossy 590
I'm usually not one to question people's gun tastes, but I have to in this case.
You shelled out the extra $$ for a nice finish on that 590, and have a Mini-Mag on it? I only say this because it could be important if you ever have to use that gun in a low/no light situation. Get a decent light. Surefire G2s go for like $30. They're bright, tough, and you can activate them with your thumb, and not worry about screwing around (literally) with the twist on/off the Mini-Mag has.
Plus, with the G2, you can later splurge $55 on a Malkoff LED conversion and get a pure white light blasting out 230+ lumens for over an hour and a half of runtime, with great shock absorbing characteristics.

Teej, I probably should have put the tung oil on a stripped/sanded finish, but i figured i'd give it a try on the stock as it was. I truly don't know how much it accomplished, or how much different it would have been if I stripped the finish off, however I did have a couple of surface scuffs that came right out. I just hand rubbed the tung oil out after it dried.
I did just recently refinish a M1a birch stock and I used Citristrip with very good results. I would probably prep the wood properly for your Mossberg.

No need to spend any where near that money. Like I said, Surefire G2 in your current mount will work 100%, with room to upgrade to a much brighter light for only another $55.

Always trying to help. Be fore-warned about the pressure switch though, a lot of people who have tried them, especially in hard-use applications, don't care for them. They have a tendancy to catch on all sorts of stuff.

Ebay is littered with those kind of slings, generic ones to quality ones. If you want quality go for a troy one:

I just ordered one for my EBR, might have to get one for my shotgun too since i redid that this week:

Took off the ATI junk on the foreend and took off the Choate folding stock(i really like the quality of it, but it just didn't work for me). It now has a speedfeed III stock and foreend. I called speedfeed and told them I wasn't happy with how short the mounting bolt is so they are sending me a longer one so I can use my GG&G sling adapter as well.

Well if you find yourself in Vegas, and want to try one out before you spend the $115 on the stock, let me know.
That grip feels GREAT. I am happy I didn't spend the 379 for the 500 with the plain jane knoxx stock. The hard plastic would probably kill my shoulder. Also, the grip was really really small, and hollow.
This grip is about the same width, maybe a little thicker than my Glock 17, and feels solid as hell.

Don't see myself in Vegas anytime soon but thanks for the offer. I'm still tossing it around in my head. I've only shot light loads out of it so far but even those seemed somewhat punchy compared to my AR and AK which I've been shooting lately. I can only imagine what buckshot is like out of it.
How solid is the AR like stock? My AR15's has some wobble to it that's bearable but still sort of annoying.

Can't wait to get her out to see what she can do with slugs & shot! Hoping she likes the Winchester Ranger (RA12005) 2-2/3" 'Low Recoil' 00 Buck that I currently have a few cases of... that would suck if she hates it... :crying:

My 870's
http://i43.tinypic.com/2ih357o.jpg
Top is an 870P which was my very first gun of any kind.
The middle is a Wingmaster that I rescued after some bubba tried to camo it.
The KISS gun on the bottom stays that way because I swap out the barrels for trap and slugs.

This gun was originally going to be a Sarah Connor 870 clone but I got a deal on a breacher barrel.
