used miniature surveillance camera to catch neighbor's 34 year old son burglarizing my house. house and storeroom broken into on 2 earlier occasions. Camera aimed at my back door and caught him breaking in and coming out with my tv, vcr and remote control. Just sententenced him to 20 years in prison. wiped the smirk he used to have off his face.

Congratulations on the catch and your improved piece of mind. It sure is tough when you can't trust your neighbors!

20 years for a B&E, sounds like he may have had something else in his background.

Good riddance to bad rubbish imo.

Just a thought/question. How are his parent's taking this? Might want to keep those camera(s) rolling just in case some revenge is afoot.

Glad you got rid of what was obviously a threat to you AND your other neighbors. Was this a case of him being the local n'er do well and his parents are good folks, or are they ratturds too?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Can we have your judge come to our county?

I'm intersted in hearing how the parents are dealing with this too...are they blaming you or apologetic to you for their son't actions?

We have to pay for his room, board, and medical expenses for the next 20 years, just for burglary - wtf?

You live in Afghanistan right?

There is no way he got 20 years for just this offense. He must have had warrants and/or an extensive history.

Well, we could have just ***ed in his Bosco and let him go to do it again. :crying:

It seems we will always pay taxes of one sort or another. As for me, I don't mind paying to keep a criminal locked up. It sure beats some of the things liberals want us to pay for, including their private army of "give me" voters. If I understand correctly, why would anyone not want a criminal locked up and off the streets? If it's the amount of time he received, I would think it was perhaps because he had a record. First timer's usually don't get that long. If not, oh well.............best not to steal someone else's property don't you think?

Even 3-6 timers don't get that long of a sentence.

Do you live in a state with the castle doctrine? The guy is lucky to only get prison and not be digging slugs out of his body.

I think that the punishment has to be commensurate with the crime, and this isn't even close, there has to be some serious aggravating factors here.

If you think that we should give people lengthy prison sentences for even minor crimes, then you will end up creating a nation that would be even less pleasant to live in than one where criminals are free to roam the streets.

It may not be as bad as rape or murder or other crimes where you physically harm a person, but it isn't "minor."

If it were me, I'd give a small sentence to a first-time burglar and a stern warning. The punishment needs to be big enough to discourage non-criminals, but not so much that it screws up the burglar's life. At that stage, maybe he's salvageable. (rehabilitation)

With the second offense, he'd get a pretty nasty sentence, but still hold out some hope of saving him. (deterrance)

Third offense? That's it - he doesn't get a chance to screw up again. (prevention)

It sounds like that's basically what happened to this guy - it's called a "Three Strikes" law... Lots of states have them. Typically, if a criminal is convicted of his third felony, he gets a mandatory minimum sentence of 15-25 years.

Some states also have other "Habitual Offender" laws besides "Three Strikes." For instance, if a felon gets caught shoplifting in California, the shoplifting charge automatically becomes a felony. If it's his third felony, he automatically gets 25 years in prison. One guy got 26 years in prison for stealing 4 chocolate chip cookies.

Could he possibly have violated terms of parole and had to go back to prison to serve the remainder of a previous sentence?

m2hmghb
09-24-2008, 16:14
In some states on the third felony it's a mandatory 25-life sentence. Also burglary of an occupied structure carries a heavier penalty. We also do not know if the police got him for something like unlawful CCW. I would suggest everyone just calm down until the OP posts more info.

I wouldn't mind the penelty being death, with this much evidence do it chinese style. Ever notice that some middle eastern countries (Jordan and Dubai come to mind) have like zero petty crime? Know why?

he had prior felony convictions for commercial burglary, fleeing, escape, first degree sexual abuse, leaving scene of accident for which he had a 30 year sentence and only served 5 years at most. He was on parole. while he was awaiting trial on burglarizing me he was caught making crystal meth. Probably be out in few years. prison just revolving door.

But he was basically a good boy, and the money he got for your TV would have helped him turn his life around. You rich folks go leavin' your TVs and VCRs and anything laying around your empty apartments what do you expect? That poor boy never had a chance.:rofl:

http://a.abcnews.com/images/Blotter/abc_execution3_080215_ssh.jpgYeah okay, But i guarantee you wouldn't be saying that if the Government was about to Execute one of your kids for stealing a Tv now would you. Death penalty is a good Punishment for Pedophiles/Rapist and people of that nature. But it's not a Good Punishment for a Property Crime.
