Ok We've decided to buy a memory foam mattress. But i'm wondering for those of you that have did you buy the factory foundation or is your resting on slats.

I looked at one foundation on the net, its made of wood and doesn't look like it would be too difficult to build. I'm a carpenter/cabinetmakers so this kind of stuff is up my alley.

So anyone got one of the wood foundations that they could give me some actual diemensions from?

Well,it`s your lucky day!:supergrin:We`ve got a therapedic foam mattress. You need a full length, full width, solid platform under it.It was easy for me because I build high-end custom furniture for a living, but you do need full support under it.

OK,I`ll be kind.I don`t know your financial status,so ,you can purchase a solid platform type bed, have one custom built for you,'WHICH IS WHAT I DO " or,use your old frame with slats, have a peice of 3/4 ply-wood cut to match mattress and frame.Any questions,P.M. me.:wavey:

Well... that platform is only like $130 of the cost. The rest is the upper foam mattress thing. Thats where the money is. Have them break it down for you and you will see a bill of like $1500 (example) for the mattress and $130 for the Platform.

And... in most case if you do not buy the platform they don't honor the warranty.

Part of the reason I got my Tempurpedic is because I wanted the adjustable base. It is great & while lying in it with the head tilted up while she was reading, the girl I'm dating said exactly what I thought when I bought it - "so much better than being propped up with pillows."

I'd strongly recommend you take a look at the adjustable base. I got the floor model, so it was 20% off.

That said, all they need is a hard, solid base to rest on - just some plywood would be fine. I dunno if I'd trust slats to be solid enough.

Yes,the mattress was about $1600.It`s worth it,I`ve never slept better and I had some major injurys. The 20 year warranty,as long as you have a proper solid platform, the warranty sticks.-YOOooo-YOU CAN NOT BUY A BETTER BED ANY-WHERE ON THIS PLANET THAN I,YES,THAN I CAN BUILD.........

We decided on the one from bed in a box www.bedinabox.com seems to be very similar materials has a good warranty. and at $800 for king the price seemed right. Of course your buying it direct from the manufacturer so no middle man mark ups.

Google foam cushions/pads. You'll be amazed how much $$ you can save without the brand name.

It has been 3 weeks on my temperpedic. I have never slept so good in my life. My wife turns a lot in her sleep and every movement would wake me up. Not only is the mattress very comfortable, but she could be jumping on the other side of the bed and I wouldn't even know she was there

best money I've spent in a long time

Thermapedic-tempurpedic I don`t know,it`s the original memory foam from Europe. They came in three ticknesses,7"-9"-11".We got the 7"-Queen.There didn`t seem to be a whole lot of difference in comfort, but a great difference in price.I`ve heard about other similar brands but don`t think there`s a whole lot of difference in them.We paid $1600.for it and I still say,it`s worth it:cool:Now ,with my part of building,Walnut-special lighting, our bed is about $8500.with mattress.I know many people out there do not invest that kind of money in one peice of furniture but many do.I am not rich but I do work for the very, very rich.I come from humble roots and would be content in passing on any helpful knowledge to anybody wanting to know.--bgreed,I will E-Mail some pics.Hell,if you like,I`ll design, build and deliver it to you, anywhere in North-America!

This is true. We have the Tempur-Pedic king size bed. The foundation was only a small part of the whole deal. It's been 2 years now sice I have had a back ache. Best $2000 I ever spent! :wavey:
