manual/automatic paragraph numbering

Where is the toggle switch or its equivalent in Word 2003 that allows for manual entry of paragraph numbering or automatic paragraph numbering? Thank you.

Should be on one of the tool bars at the top - a little button. If not, right click some place on the tool bar area and a menu will come up. Click on FORMAT and the bar should come up with the auto-number button on it.
