Everyday when driving, I see this sticker, or a variation of it on at least 10 vehicles. I dont mean to cheapen a human life, but the man wasnt a martyr for a noble cause, and he wasnt any kind of saint, but people seriously get misty eyed when speaking of him around here. Is it like that all over the country??
My cousins started called me "junior" or "J.R." a couple of years ago because of a mock scene of emotion I once broke into recounting the crash and the aftermath.

Like Peter, I certainly see more Obama stickers than I do #3 stickers.

I see a bunch of Dale stickers still. The man was my Sports Idol... right behind James Valvano. The day Dale died was actually they last time I shed a tear, but, I'd never put a sticker on my car.

I was bartending when he died. We had three guys at the bar, grown men, ironworkers/mechanics, bawling like they'd just been smashed in the balls with a mace, then had said balls maced with the spray.

I dont recall ever crying when someone I didnt know died. Im not taking a shot at jtm at all, im just thinking out loud here. I came close on 9/11 for a second, and then that turned to extreme anger.
I was in 6th grade when Payne Stewart died, and I almost cried then, i remember. Recently, George Carlins death had me choked up, but no tears.
The day after Carlin died sirius radio had a bit on Raw Dog Comedy about friends of his recounting their time with George. One guy really choked me up with his storeis.
When you see someone enough times, on tv or in person, regardless of not really knowing them, you still feel close to them. Its strange.

I can't even imagine that type of reaction.
The only thing remotely similar I've experienced was when Magic Johnson announced he had AIDS... I was a huge fan - wore his brand of sneakers and everything.
It was a let down, but I wasn't crushed.

You should have been inspired. He has good aids. Not bad aids. Plus he banged hundreds of broads.
*Do you remember that curb your enthusiasm when Larry makes the comment about someone having "good Hodgkins". Someone starts flipping **** about there not being a good and bad hodgkins, only hodgkins.

I do sometimes. Youd be amazed what you can get away with.

It was a day of mourning in Tennessee and North Carolina. I seriously thought they were gonna close schools. It was pitiful.
People around here not only have the stickers, but more than once I've seen this shirt with a line about how god needed a driver.

:faint:
I don't really follow nascar, but I know plenty who do. It still hit me kind of hard, especially since my was a big fan of his.
As for the stickers, they're everywhere here. I could probably count the number of obama stickers I've seen on one hand, but we have an infinite supply of earnhardt stickers. Almost as many as UGA stickers. I think I actually saw a few flags at half mast the next day.
Denton's pretty liberal. There's one guy who has an ancient corolla (primary color: rust) festooned with about a dozen bumper stickers, no exaggeration, FIVE of which read "Thou Shall Not Kill". The rest of the car has every name of every US soldier who has died in Iraq painted on it in what I presume is shoe polish (he was yakking about how he had to put it back on because he took it to a student car wash since they "needed to see it").
Old fat guy. Definitely a pot head.
I'd take some Dale Earnheart JR memorabilia up here any day.

Well, EyeScream done said it for me, but yeah, here in East TN I thought a flood of tears was gonna wash me away.

It was a let down, but I wasn't crushed. You'd think, I would think that Magic learned his lesson, but apparently he's back tossin' salads again. Mercy.
