View Full Version : retro motorcycles post em
along time ago i remember a thread that pics of some cool bikes. the style of the ducati monsters and triumphs without the fairings . it would be cool again , after smashy posted his new retro bike i was thinking of getting a old style myself. i know someone posted one bike that looked like a cross between and monster and buell and it was cool as hell. dunno if custom or not but hopefully the owner will repost. bike was all flat black . post em up !!!
Are you looking specifically for old bikes, or any naked bikes ('naked' meaning
designed without a fairing), including newer ones? Here's my '84 Honda Nighthawk...

Those were a hoot! Consitently lifted the front wheel in first through third gears when it hit the power peak. Back in the day, tried to buy a friends; no dice.
The suzuki 750 3 cyl two stroke was quite the rocketship as well.

I had a Kawasaki Z-1 back in my day. The bike was known as "The King". It was the fastest thing on two wheels back then. I put a Kerker 4 into 1 on it. My neighbors hated the sound it made...but to me it was sweet. I wish I had it still.
I am currently working on this 84 Honda Magna V65.... the 1100cc V4 version... was fast in its day... and still is.
I don't have any current pictures of it, but this one I snapped when I first found it in the back of a local shop.

Damn, these motorcycle posts are killing me (why do I keep viewing?) I remember lusting over an '84 or '85 Honda Magna 750 back in '84 or '85 but not having the jack to do the deed - so that solved that problem. Now, I can pony up, but am trying my best to withstand the temptation to convert. In 1977, I was 16 and had a '71 350 Pontiac Firebird and a '73 Honda CB350. Ahh, in my old age I'm reverting back to visions of youth (hey, I'm still in shape, and, kid you not, - I still get carded whilst buying beer (hey, wait a minute, I'm still buying beer from convenience stores - starting to scare myself, now.)) Cool bikes you've posted, guys. Congrats.
Yep... me too lusted after the Magna but I was too poor and just had a young child and a house payment to deal with. So it was a real treat to find this one...
I did find some pictures I had taken later on after I first cleaned it up and started refinishing it some.

I love old Jap bikes. I've been kicking around getting one to fix up and threads like this recently are helping to make up my mind. There are several I would like to get: I want a mid-seventies Honda CB-750, a late-seventies Kawasaki KZ-1000(With the mag wheels), and early-eighties Suzuki GS-1100 and a Honda V-65 Magna. I love them all though. My first bike was a '76 Honda CB-400F. I miss that old bike. Eric

I don't know if this is retro enough. It's still being currently manufactured as the Ninja 500. But the pic was taken circa 1990...I think...when you get old the mind is the first to go.

That Magna I found for $1500... and I have seen a good number of them for sale for around that, sometimes less sometimes a bit more... some even more mint that that one.

Damn, I thought that looked familiar! I had an '79 or '80 GS400 back in 1980 or 1981. I was in college and I remember when I first got it I used to wheel it down the hall to my apartment and park it inside my apartment (my roomate quipped, "that's a fire hazard", but we were young and strong, so who cared :).) I think I bought it for about $1,000 back then. I had a honda cb350 that I got in '78 or '79 that was a great bike that I bought for $400 when my folks went out of town (I didn't know how to drive a bike and had to have my friend drive it home - but, an Aerosmith (or was it AC/DC) concert and a few beers gave me the confidence to hop on and ride away - totally unacceptable behavior, yes, but that was me then. I sold it a year later for $350 - a great bike it was.

The first big bike I rode was a 73 CB-750. For a 14 kid that thing was a monster.
I just found one of the nicer KZ900's I've seen on eBay. I want this bike! I am not crazy about the diamond plate pattern in the paint, but overall, this is a beautiful bike.

Someone will correct me I'm sure but off the top of my head I think it was a Norton 650 or 750 Commando.
Edit: A quick Google says it was a modified 1961 Triumph TR6 so I guess I shouldn't trust the top of my head.

Great signature, Bill. That's how I got my nickname while riding motorcycles. I knew the area better than the guys I was riding with and suggested a short cut. It actually was shorter in distance, but often rough and overgrown. When we got to our destination one of the guy's bikes was a little scuffed up with a broken blinker and he told me "short cut my ass".

History: http://www.hondatrail90.hondagl.com/category/honda_90_honda_110_history/
When the Honda Trail 110 CT110 replaced the Honda Trail 90 in the late 1970’s, it was soon adopted by the Australian Postal Service as the official motorcycle of the Postal delivery sevice. This was largely because of its convenience, reliability and ease of getting on and off the bike. Because of this, Honda Trail CT110 Trail bikes became known as “posties”, and Australian’s adopted a new motorsport known as postie racing; where owner’s would soop up their Honda CT110 Trail bikes with bigger engines, performance mufflers, aftermarket parts, and you name it, and race at local dirt tracks.
Note: These bikes are still sold in New Zealand as a CT110 "Farm Bike" with enclosed chain. Cool, eh? http://www.otorohonda.co.nz/new_bikes/2_wheel_farm/ct110/index.htm
