Why I like the dark.

I have been stuck on days, but get to come out a few hours early sometimes.

1. It is the criminals natural hunting ground.
2. My not-so-low-profile lightbar turns out to be a no-profile lightbar.
3. Vehicle lighting regulations are easier to enforce.
4. After dark EVERYONE is suspicious.
5. People don't realize how far (or fast) light travels in a dark county.
6. I don't have to wear a clean or pressed uniform (joke).
7. I can get places without being seen.
8. Bathroom opportunities are nearly endless.
9. Gunshots look really cool.
10. The brass is long asleep.
11. ...

Feel free to contribute.
I go to midnights next month!!!

11. It's cooler, and you can get some sleep without the sun beating down in your eyes...

A couple on inches would be nice, I'm tired of peeing on myself when I can't sit down

Didn't have ot peek in windows where I worked, the folks were to cheap to get a motel room and would park and spark on side roads. any night of the week you could see two or three naked women if you wanted to check out the cars.

I guess that is a more sporting way to do it...I have always been lazy

I really like #10. The Real reason that we all like nights. You dont have to hide or stay away from the office.

I do remember that was how I ended up going to Vernon on a 96 transport. Walking from the patrol room to dispatch to get a CCH and all of a sudden, "Hey since your not doing anything go pick this guy up and take him to Vernon. Here is the Commitment.":dunno:

There are a lot less people out, so the chances of the ever popular "Hey ocifer can I axe you a question?" is greatly reduced. The night diff doesnt hurt either.

I like the night differential and I'm a night owl. I work in a prison, so getting asked questions is still there, when they're not asleep. I don't deal with nearly as much brass. When I do overtime, it's as far away from the office as possible, during the day.

14. No tourists asking "Officer, How do I find my own ass? I seem to be lost."

Seriously though, do the tourist-type ever look at a dang map?

The only question I have ever gotten at night was some jerkoff who couldn't sleep decided to do his laundry, stopped me and asked where the nearest coin laundry was. :faint:

Night differential? Ah yes, I have heard rumors of such a thing on the internet. One can only surmise the happiness such a benefit would bring.

Night differential is like a Bigfoot or Chubacabra around here. We've heard of such things, but no one has yet to see one.

Night Diff is a foriegn concept here. I like nights myself. No Brass and very few "cold" reports. Besides anyday you have to get up before noon is a bad day.

No cold reports except what day shift left behind, actual crimes in progress, being a cop instead of an armed secretary.... yeah, I'll stay on nights.

I liked working nights, but my body and family were never able to adjust. Bankers hours are just so much easier for me now.

Yeah our SRO wants back on the street real bad. If I can get into it I am considering doing it for the set Mon-Fri 8-5.

But that means I get to deal with the crap kids. Espescially since I work for a wealthy community whose kids can do no wrong.

oh gawd!! I have ALWAYS preferred to work in the ghetto than in the ritzy, high end part of town. The ghetto kids act up but they know whats coming if they go too far.

Holy crap. We had to practically hold the HR manager at gunpoint to get 2.5%.

I like night because when you need a few minutes to relax you can pull into some place far from people, get out of your car, and walk around for a few minutes.

Sometimes you find other people looking for the same thing for illegal reasons.

Holding any County Personnel at gunpoint for monetary gain is strictly against policy where I work.

I start my first midnight shift in about 20 minutes!!!!! Wahoo!!!

I probably shouldn't tell you about the 25% Sunday premium then, should I?

Ah crap. There I go again letting things slip.

(Don't mean to rub it in. We do have it great as far as compensation goes. :) )

Jeez, when I started ont eh job FLSA did not apply to LEO's. OT meant Own Time. and that is what it was if you worked evenings or midnights, all court time was on your time, as well as any court time on your day off.

96 MPH in a 25. All traffic control devices are optional. 90% of the people you are telling to shut their Pie Hole, Cum Dumpster, etc are too high/drunk to remember anything about you in the morning.

The BG's can not remember where the lumps came from when they wake up in jail.

0100 to 0500 if they do not have a car full of newspapers they are up to no good.

I've been on midnights (2300hrs - 0900 hrs) since February '08 and as of October 12th, I'll be on my third and final rotation until April '09. Then I'll go to swings (1700 - 0300) or early days (0500 - 1500) depending on which supervisors are where. Most likely swings since I do like working under the cover of darkness as well.

As far as night differential (hrs between 1800 - 0600) ... yep, it's a definite benefit to working mids. We also get Sunday Pay and being on swings and mids means you get double Sundays if you work Saturday into Sunday and Sunday into Monday. Muy bueno! This works out great for two reasons = 1) the extra $$$ every two weeks, 2) the ability to take weekends off even without seniority since there will never be a shortage of those seeking #1.

Even if they do, around here it's a 50/50 proposition. 3-4 registered sex offenders, 3 that just look wrong, and 2 that just flat creep me out.
