Does this mean he won't be making salad dressings anymore?
RIP Paul. Left wing whacko or not he was a heck of an actor and did a lot of good with Newman's Own products.

Agreed, and sad news indeed.
I guess you could tell I was a CHL fan from my username.

I don't know who you were before you signed up as "badge," (although I can guess: one of GT's many resident trolls), but you might try to show a little class.

I really hate to hear that. He was one of my favorite actors. Keep it cool Luke.
"He was smiling... That's right. You know, that, that Luke smile of his. He had it on his face right to the very end. Hell, if they didn't know it 'fore, they could tell right then that they weren't a-gonna beat him. That old Luke smile. Oh, Luke. He was some boy. Cool Hand Luke. Hell, he's a natural-born world-shaker."
One of my very favorite actors. He was so versatile in the roles he played. He was great in dramas and was equally as great in comedies. In fact, I would say his best comedy role was in Slap Shot.

RIP Mr. Newman. :crying:
The Hustler is one of my favorites.
I've never seen a Paul Newman movie, but I was sad to hear this because my elementary school had a tradition of bringing students to The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp every year (I think I went in 2nd grade). That and he made good lemonade. It's too bad.

One of the good guys of Hollywood...one of the few and one the coolest. It sucks he's gone.

A very good friend of mine in Dallas used to be a pretty decent amatuer photographer. He used to particularly like photographing race cars and racing. In his garage, he has a ~20x30 framed print of Paul Newman in profile at the wheel of his race car just before a race. That's one of my favorite photographs of all time. I asked one time if I could have it and properly display it. He said maybe someday.
Newman was a good egg and will surely be missed.

He made a pretty good pasta sauce too.
Man, I use his pasta sauces exclusively. Seems like he was a very cool guy.
It is always sad to loose and actor. Too many movie stars these days. Yes he had a star quality but he could act. You never got the feeling you were watching Paul Newman playing someone else. You were watching someone else.

You should try watching some of his movies. I don't think there's a bad one in the bunch. For starters try Cool Hand Luke and Butch Cassidy And the Sundance Kid.

Rest In Peace.:sadangel:
Rest in Peace, Mr. Newman.
He was one fine actor and gave millions to those less fortunate, through charitable donations.
Again, Rest in Peace, Mr. Newman.

Check out "Road to Perdition" made in 2002, it's one of his last films and a good one too.
RIP Mr. Newman..
He was one of the greatest actors ever! He and Joan Woodward were wonderful together
One of my all time favorite movies is "The Verdict". If you've never seen it, check it out. Great actor, seemed like a genuine, great person. The food products were to support his philanthropic efforts, I read somewhere that over the lifetime of these products he's raised somewhere around $2oo million for various charities and has started several.
Happy trails, bro.
One of my favorites: "The Sting", the card game on the train, just a great scene.
Probably no one in Hollywood can come close to what he's done for those less fortunate.
R.I.P. Mr. Newman.

From Wikipedia:
Military service
Newman served in the Navy in World War II in the Pacific theater. Newman was sent to the Navy V-12 program at Ohio University, with hope of being accepted for pilot training, but this plan was foiled when a flight physical revealed him to be colorblind. He was sent instead to boot camp and then on to further training as a radioman and gunner.
Qualifying as a rear-seat radioman and gunner in torpedo bombers, in 1944, Aviation Radioman Third Class Newman was sent to Barber's Point, Hawaii, and subsequently assigned to Pacific-based replacement torpedo squadrons (VT-98, VT-99, and VT-100). These torpedo squadrons were responsible primarily for training replacement pilots and combat air crewmen, placing particular importance on carrier landings. He later flew from aircraft carriers as a tail gunner in the Avenger. As a radioman/gunner, he served aboard the USS Bunker Hill during the battle for Okinawa in the spring of 1945. He was ordered to the ship as radioman/gunner in an Avenger with a draft of replacements shortly before the attack, but by a fluke of war was held back because his pilot had an ear infection. The rest of his detail died.
sad to hear of Paul Newman passing away. Truly a loss to the movie industry. :crying:

Not particular sad to me. He was 80+ and had been physically and mentally capable up to the end pretty much. He was a charitable man. But there are also many aspects of his life I do not agree with. I don't get emotional when celebrities die, even if they were ones I liked.

Newman was a very good actor........ He made some entertaining movies..... but in these "movies" he was acting. ......
I've never been star struck by movie stars..... but hope he RIP...:wavey::wavey:
My favorite movie he was in was "Absence of Malice". That one actually had a good screenwriter instead of a series of random explosions like some movies get away with.
You should try watching some of his movies. I don't think there's a bad one in the bunch. For starters try Cool Hand Luke and Butch Cassidy And the Sundance Kid.
Thanks, I'll check them out. Tonight my friends were talking about some movie in which he eats 80-something hard-boiled eggs.

Yeah. He raced up till a few years ago. I never really knew him as an actor, but as a race team owner.
I remember when he ran a Porsche GT1 a few years back co-driving with Kyle Petty. They were the fastest car on the track that race...and had arguably the oldest driver lineup...

I even got to meet him in the garages at Daytona a couple years ago during the Rolex 24 weekend (IIRC the same day these pics were taken). As usual, he never gave any autographs...that's just the way he was...
I'm gonna miss seeing him on top of the war wagon in the pits of an open-wheel race next to Carl Haas with his unlit cigar...to me, that was one of the defining images of open-wheel racing in America.
RIP Mr. Newman, you will be missed.

He took pride in his beliefs and backed them up with actions. That is an admirable trait. R.I.P. Mr. Newman. HH
This thread certainly shows one big difference between gun owners and anti gun liberal types.....respect.
Remember some of the rabid crap some anti's said about Charlton Heston both just before and after he died?
As much as I hate the hypocrisy of actors that use guns to portray the killing of people in movies that make them very rich and then turn around to endorse gun control laws that would rob us of our rights, I'm proud to see that nearly all of us can still show appropriate, and even great respect to just such an actor.
I saw 'Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid' in a theatre in (I think) the same year I got my first revolver, a single action Colt .22. As you might imagine, I really liked that movie (was it the name or the shooting? :)), and I've watched it lots of times. Another of my favorite Newman movies was 'Hombre'.
Anyway Paul, I hate your politics, but thanks for your movies......RIP Mr. Newman.

Not to sidetrack the thread into a political slamfest ; but wasnt Mr. Newman a staunch Libertarian, and not a liberal? I had always though he backed the Libertarian movement ; and it was his close friend, Robert Redford who was a liberal. Of course I could be wrong tho.....

I brought this up in the Paul Newman thread a while back when he was diagnosed and it did not end well...just giving you a heads-up.
All I can say is click the link below and search the list. Both Redford and Newman are on it.
