Is this the official consensus on the correct spelling?

Am I an idiot for asking or something? Just curious as to why no one is responding. I am going to get something done with this phrase and do not want the spelling messed up.

To clarify: I am looking for the correct spelling in Greek or whatever.

Just make sure you don't get "Molon Lube" instead.

The correct English equivalent is "Molon Labe" as you have in your thread title.

I don't know how to get the characters for the "real" spelling.

Like if you were going to get it tattooed on your forehead, you would probably want the symbols instead of Arabic lettering.

Yes, that is the correct English translation. The greek is this:

ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ

I hope so. I'd hate to think I wasted my money.

Yes. The sequence of Greek characters, if you want to look the glyphs up in some font table, is:
mu omikron lambda omega[grave] nu
lambda alpha beta epsilon[acute]

In uppercase, all but the omega and the lambda look in standard form exactly like the corresponding Roman characters; in lowercase, only the omikron looks like the Roman "o", so it's a bit more "interesting". Then there is the issue of diacritics (the accents), which I indicated in brackets following the letter over which they should be placed. In lowercase, you need them, in uppercase, they were traditionally omitted, but this has more to do with line spacing issues than with grammar. You can put them on if you feel like it: Modern fonts contain also accented uppercase glyphs, so you could create a template with accents easily. On a US keyboard and on Windows, the easiest way to get this short string put together to include it somewhere is probably with this Start>Accessories>System Tools>Character Map thingy.

ETA: Don't get the impression that the slightly "runic" appearance of the majuscels in the Wiki image, which Smashy has faithfully reproduced on his T-shirts, is required or somehow canonical. The "standard" is that Alpha Beta Epsilon Zeta Iota Kappa Mu Nu Omikron Tau look like their Roman counterparts A B E Z I K M N O T, Eta Rho Chi look like Roman H P X (and Gamma Delta Lambda Xi Pi Sigma Phi Psi have no Roman counterpart, though Sigma is sometimes written like C), and there is a certain variance in how scribes actually wrote them.

It is very important to have the correct spelling, when, one is going to have it permanently inked into their body! Is it not?

Thanks for the input guys. I took it into the shop today and he came up with an amazing twist on what I want. He is going to sketch it up for me and let me check it out. He had the idea to make it look like it had depth to it, like it was carved into my skin. I am curious to see what it will look like.

I'd love to see the flash when he gets it done for you.

I think we can reasonably consider the image from the monument at Thermopylae as the definitive version. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/a/a5/Molon_labe.jpg/250px-Molon_labe.jpg

When I took that pic I was working out in Colorado as a river guide. I got some killer tan lines on my feet, and they got trashed in the rocks quite often. I took a really nasty swim in the gorge and learned why they call the rapid "the grateful dead".

Learn the language, then get it tattooed. You don't wanna be like one of those guys with the Kanji characters who has no idea what it could really mean.

Wow. This thread was brought back from the dead.

And, no, I am not going to learn Greek.....

I will post a picture in my related tattoo thread when I get my digital camera back.
