I have a GunVault pistol safe, with the 4-button combination. It's very handy, ergonomically perfect IMO, but I have a couple of problems.

First is the bic pen trick. The circular keyed backup lock can be opened in seconds with an everyday bic pen body. It's not a huge issue for me, because I don't have kids in the house. Still, I'd prefer a better backup key system.

Second, and most important, the lock servo motor has failed twice now. I sent it back once, it lasted about 9 months of (at least) twice a day use, and failed.

I'm not crazy about the idea of packing it off for replacement every 9 months.

Any ideas for an alternative quick-access pistol safe?

Get one that uses a simplex lock. No batteries, push-button access.
