What is a good, easy to use torrent client? I used to use BitTorrent, then Vuse for a little while, but I thought BitTorrent was much easier to use.

And what about torrent sites? Advantages of torrents vs. lamewire?

mininova.org
waffles.fm for music and stuff, invite only

I use uTorrent or Vuse

I use uTorrent as well.

For movies, BTJunkie.org is pretty good and doesn't require an account. Stick to aXXo and you won't have to worry about viruses or spyware.

Since torrentspy went away, I like the pirate bay.
As for clients, I prefer simply using the Opera web browser...it has a built in client.

My choice as well.

I like Vuse. However, I'm not heavy into the torrent thing. It does what I need it to do... I'm happy.

My advise- stay away.

My computer has caught some nasty, drippy viri from torrents, just like the old limewire and napster.

Just be careful. More and more ISPs are turning off your service if they see that you are using torrent programs. It's a breach of certain TOS so doublecheck with your ISP.

uTorrent with encryption turned on. There is no better client.

ThePirateBay.org is the best tracker website.

Just do not go overboard and you will be fine. Do not download movies the second they come out as they are monitored.

I agree with most people here:

uTorrent, Pirate Bay, MiniNova. Keep a low profile downloading and you'll be ok.

OH - Run peerguardian2 if you're using a windows machine.

I use Vuze, which is a newer version of azureus. It works pretty well. I have also used bitcomet which is very easy to use. For torrentsites i either use thepiratebay.com or isohunt.com. torrents is defenently the way to go for downloading, much more selection than anything else i have ever used. make sure you read any comments people have before downloading because it will help you find stuff that is good quality, especially if you do any movies.

Instead of using Torrents why don't you just use a news server. Download Newsbin Pro or even Grabit and get a subscription to unlimitednewshosting.com. You can pull all the files via SSL connection and it will be completely anonymous. There are tons of files constantly uploaded too. You locate where the files are by visiting http://www.nzbmatrix.com.

azureus/vuze are my favorite client. since torrentspy went down thepiratebay, mininova, and isohunt have become my new favorites. i try to only download torrents with high popularity with lots of seeders and lots of comments about the download working and not having viruses. i haven't gotten a virus yet.

To answer the question, "what is a torrent?"

It describes a part of a simple process. A large file is cut up into hundreds or thousands of pieces. The process starts with all the pieces at one location. However, each person also makes the bits of the file they have available to others. Very quickly there may be hundreds of people with all or parts of the file. Someone trying to download the file, requests it from a source tracker and the source tells them where the full copies and partial copies are. Your computer then asks for the bits of the file and the others start sending them. The pieces come in what looks like a "torrent" of packets to your computer. Your computer puts the pieces together and then you have the complete file. Programs like uTorrent, Bitcomet, Azuras/vuse, and Bit Torrent manage the process of retrieving the pieces of the file. Some are better than others for various reasons. Some are band width hogs, some are memory hogs, some try to other things you might not want them to do, or some lose track of what pieces they have or need.

Torrents are frowned on by ISPs because they use a large portion bandwidth for one person. ISPs prefer users that only send an occasional email or read a check a couple of sites like Glock Talk each day.
