I just got an invite to visit a good friend in Cancun. She has the place wired, but I still want to ask for any input from the GT brain trust.

What do you recommend for an airline? Any other advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Take a camera, condoms, and only drink things that are sold by big corporations.

Ok....Any airline you liked better than the other? Aeromexico vs. Mexicana?

You will love Cancun. I can honestly say it was one of the best trips we have been on. Go see the Mayan ruins at Coba and get out of Cancun and see the country side. Take a day trip with a guide, swim in the caves, take a zip line over the jungle, or go repelling and eat a meal with a local village (no we never got sick).

Everyone will tell you to “stay out of downtown Cancun it’s not safe” but go anyway just go in the day and be out by night. You will find the best local Mexican food and the best deals on goods downtown, we had a blast.

I guess to sum it up Mexico has some of the hardest working most religious trustworthy folks anywhere. Just get out and see Mexico and don’t spend all your time in the tourist areas. Cancun resort area is great, but we only stuck around their at night and in the days we got out to the countryside. You take your chances with everything you do in life just don’t dwell too much on all the negative things people have to say when tell you what you can't do. Anything can happen in another country so keep your head, don’t be a drunken American and be aware of the people around you.

With that I will leave you with this, I think you will run into more undesirables in the Cancun resort area than you will in all the Yucatan. Hope you have a blast!:drunk:

I my experience, Mexicana is a great airline. I was so surprised at how good the service was and there was even a hot meal.

The airline we took was Northwest they were good but nothing above the norm. Look for a direct flight.

I would recommend Continental but Aeromexico can be acceptable at times and can save you some money. When you get there make sure you have dinner at the Tequila Factory. They make their own tequila and sell over a hundred local brands many which are not available in the states. the food is good too. For night fun drop by Daddy O's. It is a nite club that looks like it is made out of a cave or rock inside. If you are staying at a hotel steer clear of the many people who will try to talk you into having breakfast or lunch for free where they try to sell you time share at another hotel. There is often a very hard sell and can waste your time. Chel Ha (spelling?) Can be fun for the whole family. If you rent a car and get pulled over do not show your drivers license as they often take it from you if you cannot pay 100 dollars or more on the spot for speeding etc that you may not even be guilty of. They will take the license of the car instead ot used to. That sometimes is a problem outside Cancun. Snorkeling in the Cenotes is fun too.
