So, In January I'm moving to Maryland from Michigan for 3 or 4 months for an internship. January is about the time I plan to get my CPL in Michigan. After doing a little internet research, it looks as if Maryland is one of the most anti-gun states I've seen. This sucks.

I could apply for a non - resident permit in MD, but on other sites I've read that is it impossible to get this...apparently the state police there aren't too big on gun ownership. Also, you have to go to the state police for an in person interview where you have to "demonstrate the legitimate dangers" you need a CPL for.

Get a place in NoVA (northern va). It won't help in MD, but you can keep things at home in VA.

wait, I can't even keep my glock in my house in MD???:steamed:Yes you can. And you can take it to the range, in a bag, separate from the ammo. You just can't carry.

Anybody from Maryland?
Yes, 42 years ago.

I moved to TX in 1966.
Went back one time, in 1972 for a good job with IBM.
After about 5 days I told my friends and family,
"I'd rather starve in Texas than live like this again. Before we left in 1966 I carried a 1911 45 (illegally) in the car and my Wife carried a 22 in Her purse (illegally). Now I feel like I have to mount a machine gun on the hood. We aren't living like this again".

Hell, when I was a Baltimore Policeman I knew people that carried pistols (illegally). I thought they would be fools if they didn't. I even sold a Derringer to a Catholic Priest.

Democrats don't believe in protecting yourself. They'd rather die.

My brother in law owns a jewelry store so I'm going to apply under the guise that I help with picking up/delivering precious stones, repair work, etc.

I'm not sure how updated this is, but here is a list of MD ranges:

Thurmont has a decent range, really just about 15 minutes outside of Frederick

http://www.tcandsc.org/

I think there's others around, but I've shot there, they have IPSC matches April-Nov once per month on weekends, IDPA on Tuesdays, and other matches.

MD is a step above CA, NJ etc - you can own/buy "assault rifles", handguns are a bit of a pain but most are available, rifles/shotguns are even OK face to face. No registration (although MD keeps track of 'regulated' gun purchases). Could be better, could be worse. The attitude is very anti-gun though.

I got a lot of blank stares.

To get a CCP, you MUST PROVE apprehended danger.
Also, in Maryland, when you purchase a handgun, there is a mandatory 7 day MINIMUM wait and you have to sign 'authorization' to have your mental records checked.
My latest acquisition. . . a G30SF had on the registration papers. . ."Not Disapproved" when it came back from MSP (Maryland State Police). Basically, I was not technically "Approved" but, I wasn't "Disapproved" either. They just more or less said that they know that I now own that G30SF, and legally can't deny me.

Maryland has some really STOOPID laws and interpretations of same.

Unless you own a business or employed in a job where it would require you to be armed good luck getting a permit. It took me three months to get mine. Maryland is a very difficult state to have a conceal carry permit. You can only buy mags up to 20rds in Maryland but can own more than 20rd mags. Gilberts (Rockville, MD) is a good range and a good gun shop is Engage Armament (Kensington, MD) they are a class III dealer as well. And in certain counties you have to buy the ammo at the range and expend it there.

It may be old news but you use to have to register handguns in Baltimore but not in Baltimore county.

Yep, Maryland is bad. After the military and college, I got the hell out of there as soon as possible.

VR, MSP doesn't call it 'registration' but, it is, despite what they call it.

Also, with respect to 'actual' assault weapons, not the semi-automatic arms that the liberals call 'assault weapons'. . . . a good friend bought a full-auto and it only took him 6 months to get approval.
(And his record is cleaner than a Perdue chicken!)

If you become a PI in Maryland it is less difficult to get a carry license. Do you have any law enforcement experience... Your moving in as I move out...
