Okay, first...I love this rifle, but the Holosight that came with it is crap...absolute crap...it can't hold a zero to save its life...or mine its seems

ANYWAY, its time to just bite the bullet, so to speak, and spend the money on an EoTech. The problem is, I hear the stock charging handle is very hard to use around an EoTech. I remember reading somewhere, and google failed to find me where exactly, that someone had molded a new charging handle that was just long enough, and angled just right, to avoid being in the way of an EoTech. Does anyone happen to know where that person was, or who might sell such a thing?

Also, what EoTech is recommended as a generally "good" overall sight? I understand there are particular uses that they are made to, but mine will just be for the range, shooting things(as in for fun), and MAYBE in a real bad situation home/personal defense(but then agian, what gun wouldn't be for that?)

Any other suggestions are more than welcome...as in suggestions as to what to do with this crap Sig Holosight(or maybe how to get it to stay Zeroed ), better solutions for mounting an EoTech, or even cheaper...but quality...solutions similar to an EoTech....

Welcome to the world of the Sig 556. You are finding out the good news and the bad news about it. The good news is that it is one of the most reliable and durable 5.56 combat rifles in the world. The bad news is that Sig will not stop bolting crappy accessories to it. Keep the rifle. Throw away the Sig red dot.

For sighting options, there are two ways you can go. One is to cruise www.sigforum.com and look for the guy making prototype extended charging handles for use with an EoTech. Easier is to put anything on it except an EoTech. I have a Leupold CQ/T on one of my Sig 556's, and a Leupold Tactical Prismatic on the other. I have also had good luck running an Aimpoint on my Sig 556's, and the Aimpoint Micro in particular is perfect because of how low it sits on the rail.

On a side note, if you're not running a rail mounted grip or light on your Sig 556, swapping to a Sig 551 forend reduces the bulk and drops the weight be half a pound. It really transforms the feel of the gun.
