How is the recoil in the 40 compared to a 3" 45.? Also, can you get mags without that stupid baseplate . Some nice welded bottom flushfit mags would be nice

The EMP is only made in .40 and 9mm. I have not shot the .40.

I do have the EMP in 9mm, a 3" Kimber in .45, and I also have a 3" Kimber in 9mm. The 9mm has almost no recoil at all. The .45 does have some recoil, especially when shooting hot self defense loads. Nothing awful, or uncontrolable, but it is there.

I personally prefer to carry the .45 acp with an extra 10 round magazine for a spare/backup.
