In loo of the upcoming elections, I'm planning on building/buying an AR-15. I've heard some good stuff about DPMS lowers and STAG uppers, but I've never shot either rifles and would like some input.
Also, I did the math, and I seem to be getting roughly the same prices on:
A. Buying a complete DPMS Panther 16" AR-15
B. Buying a complete STAG upper / complete DPMS lower
C. Buying a complete STAG upper / stripped DPMS lower / a DPMS lower parts kit / 6 pos. stock
What is the cheapest way to go about buying a 16" entry level AR-15? Where is the cheapest place to buy from. Thanks in advance!:wavey:
Stag Lower 250ish?
Stag Upper 485ish?
$735.00.

Absolute cheapest (and I'm not recommending this I have no personal experience with Blackthorne and have heard of spotty quality):
Superior Arms Lower $79 (nothing wrong with SA lowers, I have 2 of them)

Blackthorne Kit $389

Add about $15 shipping for each the lower and the kit and $25 for a dealer transfer fee on the lower and you can build an AR15 for about $523.
You'd probably be better off going with a kit from Model 1 Sales, Del-Ton or Fire for Effect. That will raise the price about $100.
For my first build I went with a CMMG lower and an FFE kit for a total cost of $635

There are MANY negative reviews on all blackthorne products, most people will tell you to stare clear from them. But if you want a good cheap build do not hesitant to look at Del-ton. Most members here have had very good service and quality from them. also i would try to look at j&d dist. products.
I went with their mid-length rifle kit which cost $465(not including chrome-lining) and a doublestar lower, $99 shipped from budsgunshop. plus $22 shipping for the kit and another $20 for transfer fee. so all in all about $630, not including the magazines, rear sight, sling, etc. ran 400rds of russian silver bear through it, no jams and more accurate than i thought with commie stuff.

so smooth, even my lil' cousin loves shooting it.

This has me excited! I'm going to order one of those kits as soon as I sell my next policy.

Cheap = crap in the world of AR15s. The same people who thumb their nose at Hi-Point, Lorcin, Jimenez and others, are the same people who run out and buy the cheapest AR they can find. Same theory here people, you get what you pay for.

I got a CMMG FFE 16" chromoly HBAR kit for $500 shipped and used a Stag lower that I got locally for $100.
