I recently had occasion to fire a new XD .40 compact. I liked it a lot. I was shooting my G-23 and the guy next to me offered to let me shoot his if i'd let him shoot mine. We were both impressed.

He was hitting well with his and I was doing the same with mine. He shot My Glock a little better that he was shooting his XD and I shot his XD about the same as I was shooting my G-23. I can't tell you how much that surprised me. The only other XD I've ever fired was the full size .45. It was pretty good my I like my G-21 and my G-36 both a lot better.

I've been thinking about getting a little something to keep in my truck in a lock box full time. I'm thinking about that XD now it is sweet.

I think quite a few Glock owners have been pleasantly surprised with some of the more recent plastic offerings lately.......not that there's anything wrong with Glocks.....it's just that quite a few other manufacturers are producing plastic pistols that are just as good.......and, depending on who you listen to, some think a few of them are.......better!

As far as plastic pistols go, the XD is a good one.

I held the XD-M .40 today at a local shop. I am hardcore Glock but I have to say a full-size Springfield fit my hand much better than my beloved G19. The trigger was better than I expected. I heard that next month thier would be an XD-M 9 and what kind of capacity would that have? I don't know if I am ready to turn-coat yet on Glock but after I get me a SigPro 9 I might consider the XD-M 9.

Well I agree that the XD does seem to be a darn nice pistol on the surface of things. But before I go around saying that they're as good as Glocks I want to wait a few years and see if they can stand the test of time like Glock has.

They seem fine now but they really haven't paid their dues yet.

While most of us will agree that Glock has proven itself, it really isn't necessary to use time as the basis for establishing the service life of firearms. There have been many types of "torture tests", and high round count tests that work for this purpose. This is essentially what the military does, and it can show whether any firearm will work when it should. The results of those tests have not been disputed years later!

I have Glock and XD .45 c both great guns ,but XD grip is much slimmer and the trigger is better IMHO.

I used to own an XD9. It was a great pistol and if I had my carry permit at the time I would have carried it. That being said, I eventually sold it for a G19. The XD9 was my first handgun, and while it was accurate I just couldn't shoot it as well as I could a borrowed Glock. IMO, if it works for you then go with it.

The XD just flat out works for me. It fits my hands well, it points well, and it shoots great. The XD is proven. The design has a proven track record all the way back to the HS-2000 (which is the same design).

i can fully disassemble my glocks in 2 minutes.
i can replace any internal part by myself.
i can get cheap oem replacement parts from a gazillion places.

i would consider an xd if/when you can accomplish the above.

Having owned Glocks for several years, I will say that I would very much like to try an XD. I recently fired a S&W M&P40C, and I was impressed with it. I also just traded into a Beretta PX4 in 40 S&W and I must say that I like it more than any of my Glocks:wow:. I won't get rid of my Glocks, but the other pistol manufacturers are offering options that Glock will likely need to compete with down the road.

I totally agree! Those tests will find any existing problems pretty fast. I would buy and XD without hesitation and with complete trust. Still, Time is also an excellent measure of endurance and quality. Because time doesn't just test one pistol or even a hundren or even a thousand. It tests every single pistol that is manufactured. And it it tested by perhaps the toughest test out there...ownership and use by Joe Blow average AMERICAN.

While the other tests are impressive. I think the complete picture becomes even more clear with the test of time. Those results are not isolated or random...they are complete. I'll ride with that.

I have a 4in xd-40 with the bi-tone slide and its been perfect, I love the grip on the thing! It's slimmer than my G19, and the grip safety is very natural. Shoots very well and carries very comfortable OWB. I would like to try a M&P though...
