Was in Walmart today looking for a deal on long guns and found out that Walmart in my area, rural North Carolina no longer carries firearms. This is prettry much in the middle of deer country, I was really surprised. They do have some ammo left, but WWB .380 for the wifes pistol was $33 for a hundred pack. The .40 S&W was only $29, unless they priced this wrong we want shot much .380. So what is the Walmart policy like in your area?
Last time I was in the Wal-Mart here in Flagstaff (couple of months ago), they had two round display cases of rifles and shotguns. Ammo covered the back wall of the sporting goods counter.
They no longer sell guns at their New Hampshire stores.

There are two Wal Marts near me...one sells guns, the other doesn't. They both sell ammo.
I actually believe that this may be more of a way for WM to eliminate some regulatory hassles than because of some philosophical objection to firearms. But I'm just guessing. :dunno:

I am thinking the same thing. They are trying to build a new Supercenter here, so it will be interesting to see what will make it to the new store, and what doesn't. The city is whining about the store's "footprint", so Walmart keeps downsizing the square footage. I would bet that will be their excuse for not selling guns....no room.

Selling them at all but the Walmart grocery stores around here.

Where in DFW are you? I live in Collin/Denton County and none of the Super Wal-Marts sell them anymore here :dunno:
Nope none of the Walmarts in my Area sell guns any longer.

Arlington Super/Hyper mart on Cooper South of I-20 does, the Super Walmart in East Ft. Worth does, and there is another Walmart in Arlington that does, but I think it is just a "regular" Walmart.
Maybe the "Super" Walmarts in the Collin/Denton county area are zoned as gorcery stores or something.
Do you know if the Walmart on 75 at Spring Creek sells guns?

I'll have to check that one. I mainly frequent the stores in McKinney, Little Elm, and Frisco. Or as I like to spell it Phrisceaux due to the influx of latte sipping yuppies that have moved here.

you can go to walmart.com, search for shotguns, print the page of the guns you want, take them to walmart and have them ordered.
Last time I bothered looking, Walmart in Marble Falls, TX still had long guns and ammo.
Hubby's the one that usually goes that way while I hustle through the rest of the store grabbing what I need. That's where we primarily buy our WWB for the 9mm and 40's.
Walmart does not sell firearms in New Jersey. Then again, we are lucky that any store is able to sell firearms in the PRNJ (Peoples Republic of New Jersey). For example...the anti-gun Nazis went into our local Sports Authority and for all intents and purposes used extortion methods to strong-arm the store into no longer carry firearms.

Is it *policy* that there aren't any guns in that WalMart? Did you ask the manager?
It has nothing to do with policy, and everything to do with marketing. It's old news (early 2006) that they've been phasing out firearms sales at some locations due to a lack of profitability. If sales are strong at a store, they keep firearms. If not, then the space is given to sporting goods merchandise that might be more profitable at that store.

The last time I was in the Wal-Mart in McKinney on 380 in town, (the one behind Sams, not the one on Custer), they had guns. The other two, (Custer, and Lake Forest), did not however, nor did the one in Frisco.
This may have changed however, because I try to avoid the one that did have guns like the plague, (not because they had guns).

The Wal-Mart in Concord sells firearms as of yesterday.
We don't have a Wal Mart in my town;yet. The one in the next town over has long guns.

Same here as of an hour ago when I was checking out some close out 30-06's
Yep, I usually frequent 50-60 different Walmarts around here at least 5 times a year. The majority still sell guns from what I can recall.
The Walmart here in Bloomington Indiana, only has black powder rifles. As soon as deer season is over, they will be gone.

The Wal Mart in my area quit selling firearms about a year ago. But 30 miles south of me in the neighboring county, their Wal Mart still sells firearms.

most stores have/will stop carrying firearms. you can call your local walmart, ask to speak to a manager and see if they are still licensed to sell firearms (most are) then you can simply print out the selection of guns from on-line, take it there and they can tell you a price and order it for you if you want.

Najaboy is 100% correct on why some stores carry them and some don't. The only stores that still carry handguns are those in Alaska.
As to calling to ask about the license, you can try that but after the guns are removed from a store the license is turned back in too.
Guns?! The walmart by me doesn't even sell ammo!
I know of a few that do still sell ammo, but I'm not sure about guns. I never look because they don't usually sell AR-15's.

I'm gonna have to say your wrong on that last part. i know because the one near me stopped selling guns about 6 months ago, so i called because i wanted a shotgun and they said i would have to print the item number from the web page and they could order it then.
I was at Kmart this evening and they stopped selling guns, they event took out the display case where the airsoft were.

There are still 2 west of Indy that sell guns. All the ones I've been to in the metro area have quit selling guns, but they all still sell ammo.
Sam Walton is rolling in his grave right now. Alcohol but no firearms in his stores.

They all will eventually stop carrying firearms.
Every person in Wal-Mart management from in store trainee to Chairman of the Board despises firearm sales. They are always short staffed and the assistant who gets called to the gun sale knows that he just lost 30 minutes out of his/her busy schedule.
In addition, no assistant has ever been fired or disciplined for not selling firearms, while it is a constant danger for those who respond the page "Please come to sporting goods for a gun sale"......One slight mistake on the Federal form or one slight error in the log book and they are toting a serious reprimand. Reprimands aren't a good indicator of people who are about to get promoted.
In addition, if you're old enough to remember, the Sporting Goods department guy was always a guy and usually had some interest in hunting and shooting. Now, almost none of the Wal-Mart employees even know the difference in a shotgun or a rifle. They can't order what customers want because of this lack of knowledge. As the selection of guns gets more boring, less people come in to seriously look, driving down sales.
In most of these stores that have stopped selling guns, the manager would say.."Well, guns just don't sell here anymore."
Mens pants wouldn't sell either if all you carried were black polyester pants in size 28. Same situation with the guns.
Sorry for the long rant, but Wal-Mart could be mopping up if they just gave a damn about customer service.
