I remember last year that police pulled over a van that was full of cell phones purchased at random through several states.

Is it true that certain types of cell phones can be used to make untraceable or anonymous calls?

Somewhat, prepaid disposable phones from 7/11 or walmart or wherever. They come with minutes so if you pay with cash and then toss it after the minutes are used there is little way of tracing them since they have such a short lifespan.

I believe the men driving the van...the camel-humpers ( ) were released but police confiscated the phones.

I believe the proper nomenclature is "filthy, sandy, camel jockey". You want to get it right because people can be so sensitive these days.

They can determine where and when the phone was sold, then simply review the security footage, don't buy them yourselves, pay someone to buy you a "non-traceable phone"
