Well, I got the new computer up and running. Core i7 920, ASUS P6T, 6 GB DDR3 RAM, 1 TB HDD, ATI HD4870 1 GB DDR5, 27" S-MVA LCD....

It's fun.

Sounds nice. So how is the Core i7?

I haven't had much of a chance to do much with it yet. I was going to get a Core 2 quad 9550 but this was just about the same price and significantly faster. MTS files from an AVCHD camcorder only push the CPU usage to about 10-15%. I plan on doing some video editing on this computer and the fast processor combined with Vista 64 to take advantage of 6GB of memory and Sony Vegas Pro having optimized for multiple cores should make for a good experience.

It's supposed to be quite OC-able as well. I haven't decided if I want to yet. Right now I'm running the stock cooler.

It almost has enough ram to run Vista w/ all the effects.. :)

Sounds like a nice system, should perform well I would think.

cripes- I can't help but wonder what the average joe PC user will do with all of this computing power...

On the bright side, viruses will take longer to bog down their machines after their excessive bouts of porn browsing!

I can't wait to get Sony Vegas Pro (education discount, thankfully) and give some footage a shot. I've not been able to edit any video on my old computer as it couldn't hack AVCHD content. It should be fun.

I might try some PC gaming again- I've pretty much gone to the Xbox but with this computer and the big LCD, it should be fun again.

Computing power is fun!

Have you run memtest, OCCT, Itat, prime 95, 3dmarks or anything? Give those a shot and give us some scores. (if you don't mind )

The only thing I've run so far is the built-in Windows Experience Index/System Assessment Tool. I got a score of 5.9 (current range of 1.0-5.9 possible). I'll try some others later. That's probably a bad idea though- next thing you know I'll be wanting to upgrade the CPU cooler, add more memory, try some overclocking, etc. Everything's peachy now- I'm going to introduce discontent purposefully. *sigh*

Are you planning on gaming at all? If so, might want to add another 4870 if you're pushing 1920x1200, especially with the price drops.
