Yep, the 610 can be converted to shoot the 10mm Magnum @ Hamilton.

Thanks man, it's an accurate revolver, and the trigger is very nice! I'm not trying to tempt you, but you don't find 610's very often and I think it represents one of the best values out there.

Here is my Ti collection... a Buck 560XLT, essentially a Ti-handled 110, and a S&W 296 - the 5-shot .44 S&W Special version - which kicks a bit with it's boots and the 200gr Gold Dots.

Yeah, the Hogue .460/.500 Magnum grips they supply for the new S&W X-frame revolvers also fit the K, L, & N-frames. Great for the 29/629 - my two such grips are for my 629s. A bit absurd for the 296, however. They sure are more comfortable, too.

Two favorite .357's. One has the lock, and features not found in any other model or dash - it gets shot every range trip and not a malfnction yet.

Two more favorite .357's. The M19-3 is stock except for the grips, and is one of my most accurate revolvers, with a clean smooth action. The M66-2 is areal handy snubbie.

Just got this one yesterday. A pre victory M&P hand ejector. Serial number 8773XX, all numbers match. I may send off to S&W for a letter on this one. It should be an early WWII production civilian revolver. I'm guessing 1941 maybe early 1942. It was probably sent to U.S. Defense Supply Corp. in Washington DC for distribution.

Nice Smiths, but what caught my eye is that loader, I have never seen anything like that, what sort of speed loader is that?
This Model 29 44 Magnum engraved by renowned S&W engraver Alvin White in Oct., 1956 for the owner of Rex Firearms. Mr. White considered this his most intricate and best work for S&W.

I'm not a fan of engraved handguns, but that took some serious talent.
I certainly can appreciate the work that goes into a maaterpiece like that.

ArtCrafter

Thanks for the compliments! :)
Model 22-4
The current Model 22-4 is basically the same thing at much lower cost. It does have the dreaded ILS, though, plus MIM, modern mfg 'shortcuts', etc. These are non-issues to many, of course. I would also suppose the M22-4 is OK with +P ammo. (While all M1917s have heat-treated cylinders, I would not shoot +Ps in mine.) Similarly, modern barrel steels are said to better withstand barrel erosion, particularly from jacketed bullets. The new guns also have more visible sights.
Pre-Model 22
A factory-stock Pre-Model 22 in similar condition as the BCA custom would probably bring about the same price, perhaps more. Hard to say for sure, though, since examples are not commonly found. Other than the previously noted 5.5" non-lugged barrel, the Pre-Model 22 differs in the lockwork and what I would call the "aesthetic" (the BCA custom looks more like a pre-war gun). Like the new guns, the Pre-Model 22 also has 'high-visibilty' sights.
Pre-war & Transitional Pre-Model 22
The transitional and pre-war Model 1917s are substantially the same as the BCA custom, but again have 5.5" barrels with no ejector rod shroud. They are also typically much more expensive when (if...) found in similar, but otherwise original condition.
Either way, new or old, the cans don't know what hit 'em.

My only wheel gun (6" 686+ -5), but hopefully a 4" 686 and a 5" 629 are in the near future. This compliments my 6906, M&P 9 AND 1911ES pretty nicely.

http://www.cleanmpg.com/photos/data/638/medium/S7300185.jpg
Polished out and decked the sear along with the sear carrier and other related parts. Reprofiled the striker safety button and polished it. Trued and stoned up the striker tang. Polished the feed ramp and the exterior parts of the chamber along with the crown. The bore has had a very slight lap and polish. << Very slight, it's a fantastic bore. Polished out the sides of the slide. Broke the extractor at the 5k round mark. S&W would have replaced it free if I would has took them up on it. Bought a new one from NUMRICH, fitted it up and have not looked back.

http://www.cleanmpg.com/photos/data/638/medium/mpl.jpg
Large grip insert
I did a full trigger job on it including decking out the sear along with truing up and polishing the striker tang. Reprofiled/polished the striker safety button. Polished the feed ramp. I also removed the beaver tail and did the stimple job on it. It's a fantastic shooter, 100% reliable and my current go to combat pistol.

I installed a spring kit. Took the stones to it. (Yes MIM does take to the stones.) Also put a slight lap and polish to the bore and a slight polish to the crown. It is 100% reliable be it retail or reloads. Wife shoots .38's and +P's through it with some mags. I love shooting full house 125 and 158 mags out of it. The tiny front night sight is a nice touch. The wife likes her pistol and claims it's all she needs.

I installed a spring kit and stoned her out. Shimmed the hammer and trigger. Lapped out the bore with a slight polish. I also bead blasted the trigger and hammer to match the cylinder release finish. Then I polished the side of the hammer. The pistol has been hand polished. Started out with auto finish paper of 800 grit and finished with 2000 grit. Then took Mothers polish to it. All roll marks and laser etching are in great shape. It eats full house mags and leaves me giddy as a school girl every time I shoot it. And I do shoot it a lot. :)
Like the polish job on the 686, it looks like a nickel gun.

I would imagine that it is rare to see one of the transition numbered guns like that between the 2nd and 3rd generation, that is a pretty good find. It appears to have the 3rd Gen frame with the 2nd Gen sights on the slide, it appears that it does not have the dovetailed front sight. I would be doing some research on value.

Lobo, can you give me any serial number data on that pistol. The reason I ask is because I found this one at a local dealer. I'm wondering if I got a better deal than I thought I did.....How do I know if this is one of the 500?
To think, I almost passed on it because of a little holster wear around the muzzle......

You have a good eye Sir. It does have the non-dovetail front and the 2nd Gen rear sights. I've done some research, but have some more to do. What I did find was that these were 3rd Gen frames with 2nd Gen slides and barrels, distributed by RSR. They are classified as "scarce" with only between 400 and 900 being produced. In my case, my gain may have been someone else loss, as I walked out the door with this one for $275.
While I am not a collector and don't really have any idea of value I would say you will have no problem turning a healthy profit there should you ever decide to sell. The Smith and Wesson forum has some very knowlegable people on there that might be able to give you an idea or two about the value of that pistol.

Greetings everyone,
I am new to the Smith and Wesson family, having just purchased at 357 Magmun, model 28-2 Highway patrolman with a 6" barrel, and a 38 Special model 10-6 with a heavy 4" barrel. Sorry veryone... but no picks. For me these are great Shooters not collectors, they are both in very good condition.
I am currently looking for a .22LR model 17-8, 10 shot, 6" barrel, this one seems to be a bit tough to run across, but im sure I will in time.

My latest acquisition, a nice model 28-2 Highway Patrolman wearing diamond magnas and riding around in a Safariland holster. Circa 1966

It is a shame I chose such a poor paying profession, because if I had the funds.... I have the N frame itch and I would love to scratch it like you all are doing. Nice revolvers.

Bullman, start saving your pennies. Models like the 28-2 are not getting any cheaper, they're the poor mans 27 and people have discovered what great guns they are. I paid $450 for mine, another described as almost identical with the newer "N" serial number just sold for almost $1500 on one of the auction sites. :faint: Yea, I know, but good deals are still out there. As for me, Lay-a-way is my friend.

Model 40-1 "Lemon Squeezer." My every day carry. The bluing is worn in the normal places due to carry, but I kind of like the worn look on a carry gun.
