I purchased an 8 gig usb drive on black friday. I tried to save a 4.7g movie that had been shrunk to the drive. It says not enough space, insert another disk when I try to copy the movie to the drive. Any suggestions?

thanks

Max file size for a FAT32 device is 4GB so your movie won't fit as a single file on the 8GB device. Reformat the drive as NTFS.

Be aware that a drawback of using NTFS on a flash drive is the additional data writes that are necessary. NTFS is a journaling file system, which means that disk transactions are logged separately on the disk as they occur, therefore your access to the device will be slower. This can add up to a considerable amount of extra disk activity, which could mean wearing out your USB drive faster in the long run. Finally if you use an NTFS formatted USB flash drive you have to be more careful to ALWAYS remove the USB flash drive “safely”.

Okay having said all that … USB drives are cheap so what the heck, by default Windows will not allow you to use anything but the FAT and FAT32 file systems to format your USB drives, to enable NTFS on your USB flash drive you need to …

Open the Device Manager and find your USB drive under the Disk Drives heading.
Right click the drive and select Properties.
Choose Policies tab and select the "Optimize for performance" option.
Click OK.

… now when you select Format on the flash drive you will have the option of formatting the drive in NTFS
