I googled this a while back and found some good schools but for some reason I couldn't find it this time. Does anyone know of any good and reputable schools near central florida for defensive and tactical handgun classes? I know of RIsks in south florida but are there any others? I don't mind driving as south as ft. lauderdale. Thanks in advance.

Check out SouthernExposureTraining (http://www.southernexposuretraining.com) in Lakeland. Irv hosts some of the best instructors in the country (Randy Cain, Louis Awerbuck, Bill Jeans, Scotty Reitz, etc...).

Randy Cain is a frequent presenter. His Tactical Handgun 101 class should be required for anyone deciding to carry a firearm.

Major Norm Belson teaches Tactical and Advanced Tactical classes out of Knights Shooting Sports in Clearwater.

I completely agree with this advice. You will be much better served than that outfit you mentioned.

While andy stanford moved ops out to california there are still a few of instructors who stayed in FL. Look up Jim Clark

There is also frank garcia's Universal Shooting Academy in frostproof, which is mostly designed around ipsc/idpa shooters but there are tactical classes listed also.

I'm going in March to Jim Clark's Defensive Handgun 1 class

highpointpst.com

Good price for a 1 day class. Fits my busy schedule until I have some time to free up for one of Randy Cain's 3 or 4 days.
