So there I am in Abbottstown, PA @ a local grille and bar with my family celebrating my Mom's 60th birthday. A couple who I was friends with their son growing up was there and I updated them with me going to Korea since I hadn't seen them in years. Later into the evening an older gentlemen comes up and asks me where I am headed with the Army. I tell him I am headed to Korea in the beginning of February, thinking it was just another old Army Soldier who served a long time ago.

Well, he says he was in for 33 years and retired as the Sergeant Major of the Army!

I asked him what his name was and he said Retired SMA Glen E. Morell! I took a moment to collect my thoughts and realize that this was the man that the top Recruiting award was named after!

We sat and talked for a few minutes about his career and my 8.5 years in and where I have been. I was honored to meet him and talk with him, especially in that setting! For reference, here is a link to read about his career.

I remember him, he retired during my first enlistment. Pretty cool running in to somebody like that.

He gets around--this is up in New Hampshire about 6 years ago. I'm the idiot on the right.
