I just got several Pearce +0 pinky extensions for my G29. I figured they would be fairly easy to install, but I'm having trouble removing the factory baseplate from the mags. The instructions say to depress the button in the middle of the base, and then simultaneously 'squeeze' the sides of the mag where the locks are. Its the latter thats causing me problems. I can see where the little locks are, but I just can't figure out how to squeeze the mag enough to allow them to release. Does anyone have any good tricks for 'squeezing' the magazine? Thanks in advance!

Ran into the same problem installing Pearce extensions on my G26 mags. I could not squeeze the mag enough to get the stock base plate to clear the tabs on the sides. So I ended up using a small slotted screwdriver to pry the base plate away from the sides and then pushed the release button and they slid forward easily.

Once that was done the new extensions slipped on and locked in nicely. The original base plate is a little chewed up but still serviceable so I'm not really concerned. They are cheap enough to buy should I ever need to put them back on.

Check this thread: http://glocktalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=310946

I used the instructions here for my 27 extensions. I tried to do it just by reading the first posts and I had trouble as well. After I read down a bit, others had some helpful advice. Then it was a breeze. I can only assume the 29 mags work the same way.

Good to know, I just bought some +0 pierce pinky extensions myself!

Make sure your tool is long enough to push the retainer all the way down into the magazine with a click so it is completely out of the way.

Then keep the tool in the hole and use it to pry the floorplate off the mag tube (in a motion rather like when you peel an apple) while putting a little pressure on the sides of the mag tube with your fingers just above the floorplate. Be strong....pry hard.

Well, I finally got it. It seems that using the armorer's tool (or equivalent) as leverage is the key. I wasn't even squeezing the sides that hard and it slid right off when using the tool as a lever. I appreciate all the help fellas!

I use a punch slightly smaller than the base plate hole. Insert punch, put mag flat on it's front side so the plate slides down (just over edge of the workbench) and push down fairly hard while squeezing. The plate will pop off. Some are quite hard to get going, but it will come off.

They are hard to get off, but just remember, its very hard to hurt the magazine! Put a lot of pressure on it, it will be fine :-)

For new mags, adjust a set of vice grips to lightly press on the sides, then fold a rag over twice and use that to apply pressure to the center tabs. New mags are HARD to take apart--they will be easier the second time!

It can be a pain in the butt and you think that you are going to break the thing. Atleast I thought I was going to break the first ones that I did. I messed around with it and it worked out.

Follow the link that Ralphie put up and you should have no prob!

After talking to Pearce rep. on 800 # devised from that & my own thoughts.
Wrap the mag in duck tape right below base so the teeth of my channel lock pilers do not "eat into" the plastic & leave marks. Apply good pressure with the end of the tool right @ the marks on the mag. where the lock is middle ways across. Then with the punch as Butch said pushing the retainer @ the bottom of the base plate down below it's hole they are a breeze to get off.

All you need is a glock tool...no vise grips!! Watch the video butch posted...it's easy to get them off if you use the correct tool.

Butch is the man with all the knowledge! One trick I have found is to use the side of a table to help put pressure on one side of the mag, and with my thumb on the other side it comes right off. Butch is right, you have to push the plate far enough down to take the pressure of the floor plate.
Butch I mean it when I say you are the one with alot of knowledge. I have been a lurker here for over 10 years and have learned alot from helpful people like you.:wavey:

you will need a table vise. put cloth on each side of the mag so you dont scratch it...

I finally got the floorplate off from reading here but I'm having a problem with the Pearce Grip pg-26 grip extension lining up right after you slide it on. The little button on the floorplate that you push in to remove the floorplate does not line up just right so that it pops through locking the grip extension in place. I can see the little "button" but it is kind of to the side just a little bit, but enough to not pop on through. I've taken the grip extension off and back on and made sure the floorplate was in correct position while sliding on the extension to no prevail. I know it should pop through a little bit because you can still start to slide the grip extension off because it's not locked in. (and the clip will only hold 8 rounds instead of 9 because the floor plate is not all the way down)

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Butch

Normally loading the mag causes the retainer to pop into place.

Ya might try taking a needle or small sharp nail, stick it into the retainer, and drag/pry it towards the hole to see if it will pop into place.

Thanks for advance, I'll try a small optical type screwdriver tomorrow but I just don't want to booger up the little button anymore. It's not bad but I can see a couple of scratches on it already. :crying:

toothbrush?

I just load it up to full capacity. The pressure seated the retainer thing both times I've had to do it.

First time I took my G26 mags apart was a terrible experience. Putting all my body weight onto it would not get the baseplate off.

Are your guys' magazine springs crooked?

i used a screwdriver to pry around those nub clip things, saw a guy doing it on youtube who didn't have the armorer's tool

I was putting on the GAP baseplates (lovin em, btw)

Finally, I got the little button to push through. It does not actually "pop" in to place and it's not really exactly flush with the pearce grip extensions but it's very close to being flush. Thanks to all and especially Butch and Toothbrush. I tried at first to load the magazine to try and force it through but I could not get the 9th round in. Finally I just pressed down hard and got the 9th round in and walla! The second clip took less than 2 minutes to do. Yes I feel kinda stupid. hehe

Thanks, this forum rox!!

Was able to remove but having trouble installing Pearce Extension on to the mag, I can install the extension without the small black insert (floorplate) but if i try to install with the black insert (floorplate) it will not lock into place. It seems as though the black insert (floorplate) is too tall and blocks the grooves in the extension from sliding onto the magazine. It works flawlessly without the black insert (floorplate). I've even tried hold mag in vise to install, unsuccessfully.

Is it okay to use like this or should i file down black insert/floorplate and try to install?

Specifically....which Pearce extension are you trying to install?

Are you using the retainer that came with the magazine, or a retainer that came with the extension?

i have no problem dissembling the mags, dissembling without dinging up the floor plate a bit is another story :-P

that plastic gouges pretty easy so try to use the most blunt object you can fit in the hole
