Happy Thanksgiving and My First Entry

Greetings to you from the great north woods. I figured I'd start a blog just to do it.
My life is great. today marks the day when, 6 months ago, I became sober.
For me, it was an easy decision. I was never a huge user of anything, just very diligent about doing it.
I started when I was 15 in high school, drinking on weekends and pretty much driving drunk a couple nights a week. Hey, it was OK then right? I worked in an Irish bar and learned from the pros, who, because of my age, loved to get me popped.
College came and I certainly did my best to entertain as many folks as I could in as many ways as I could. Boy, if I could have those years back!
My drinking partners are still my friends today. None of them have wised up.
The only one that left us was my brother. He killed himself after getting into the hard drugs. Couldn't stand living anymore. That was 22 years ago now; seems like I could still call him up. He's in my dreams all the time like nothing happenned, but inside, we both know what's coming. We were 11 months apart.
Today, my life is amazing. my wife has stuck through the dumbass things I've done, given me 2 beautiful kids and I feel so lucky to be here. Having a spiritual awakening after years of pain and darkness is kinda cool. Sometimes I'll be watching TV or playing the guitar and realize I have a stupid grin on my face for no apparent reason.
Thank you God for pulling me out of the depths.
Hope this wasn't too depressing, especially for thanksgiving, but looking it over, it is what I'm thankful for.
Now go eat like pigs and take the time to say thanks to He who gave it to you and those you love.
