Our police chief
I am aware of two of the people he killed while on duty. He carried a 1911 and he didn't hesitate to use it. One was a guy in custody. He said all he tried to do was quieten the guy down. When the main spring retainer hit the guy on the bridge of the nose the pistol went off and blew a V-shaped groove in the top of the guy's head.
One was a poor, scared little wet back who hid under a car to try to escape that huge man that was chasing him. John put one hand on a fender, leaned over, and fired a fan spray under the car. John said he feared for his life.
John didn't have much faith in the accuracy of a pistol, and told me one day that he would stand fifty yards away and let me shoot at him six times with any pistol ever made.
He was the most hard hearted man I've ever known.
