Concealed carry clothes-what do you do for a living
I'm a mechanical contractor, and so don't always carry my G19. If I'm heading onto a site where I am sure to bump up on a few things ans risk damaging my weapon I lock it in my truck safe. But when I do carry I would say that I try my best to make it invisible. That being said, you can never get it perfect. But chances are the average Joe won't notice it I find. They may catch a shadow, but usually (where I live anyways) assume it's a phone. Someone else who's carrying will obviously know it for what it is.
My philosophy is do your best, but assume that anyone who looks at your carry spot long enough will notice.Posted 03-20-2013 at 13:34 by kjabbott

What Can I Do To Help You?
DUH! So NOW I see what you meant about posting to a blog. Talk about being dense (me) for goodness sake!
I liked this one and had not seen it before. I took advantage and posted about my very recent experience in attending the CPA.

Coping mechanisms?
Anyone not on the job will have a different viewpoint than someone dealing with it day in and day out. This may be why some LEO's get alienated from civilians..."they just don't understand" blah, blah, blah. You have a pretty good perception of what might have occured off camera and without sound. Your buddy doesn't. Chalk it up to him not walking in your shoes. I have to avoid talking shop with most folks because they just don't GET it.Posted 04-27-2012 at 08:16 by Bill Keith

What Can I Do To Help You?
More...Quote:Be an informed citizen. Vote for intelligent city and county elected officials who want a decent community. Hold them accountable when they screw up and when something needs to be said, go to a city council meeting or county board meeting and speak out. That alone would help immensely.Posted 04-01-2012 at 11:57 by RussP

What Can I Do To Help You?
Very good...Quote:Don't make negative assumptions based on confusing things you see, but for which you don't know all the background details. There is usually a method, a cause, a reason for an officer doing something that might appear odd. Don't rush to judgement and don't call to complain; you'll look like a fool.
An officer shopping at Walmart might be buying office supplies for work out of his own pocket.
An officer who is given a free cup of coffee at a convenience store might not be able to take his wife to most restaurants in the area that he work/live area because many of the people the officer has arrested over the years works in at those eating establishments....and hold grudges.
An officer who fails to pull over a vehicle for an obvious traffic violation might be on his way back to his station after clearing a scene.... 4 hours after his shift officially ended; or, he might be on his way to a call for service or to a court hearing.
Four police cars parked at a coffee shop might belong to officers getting the only 15 minute break that they'll get during a busy 12 hour shift.
An officer who conducts a traffic stop on an off-duty police officer and let's them leave with a warning has given hundreds of such warnings to complete strangers who are not cops and who he will likely never see again.
An officer who is exceeding the speed limit by 10 miles per hour might be trying to approach a suspect vehicle without alerting them to the fact that the police are nearby. Likewise, a police vehicle that is exceeding the speed limit might be approaching the scene of an active crime and the officer has just turned off their lights and sirens so as to not endanger the victim by alerting the subject that the police are coming. Someday that victim might be you.
A police officer on a cell phone might be talking to a complainant/victim who requests an officer to call them.
The list goes on and on.Posted 04-01-2012 at 11:56 by RussP

People, without actually meaning it, say “I’m going to kill you!”
I'm in Georgia. That phrase is considered by law a "terroristic threat". I don't believe they care if you are armed or not. I know of people who have been prosecuted simply because someone pushed their buttons and they lost their temper and said "I'll kill you". I don't know if their lawyer got them off or not. Either way, I'm sure the bail and legal fees weren't cheap.Posted 02-16-2012 at 20:50 by MtnBiker

Open Carry LE Encounter
I am a certified firearms and personal protection instructor. I realize that the laws vary widely from state to state, and that is even true of states that are very pro-2nd amendment. Although 2 states have similar laws regarding the right to carry either open or concealed there are slight differences in their laws or their interpretation of their laws that may dictate widely different treatment of a motorist or passenger carrying a firearm, especially a handgun. So it's never appropriate to tell someone that a LOE taking possession of your weapon and safetying it during a stop is wrong, or that he/she is lying when they tell you a CHP will prevent it from happening in the future. And I would submit that any LEO who doesn't ask and take possession of the weapon during a stop is not a very professional or safety conscious individual. We had a LEO shot to death by the brother of a fellow (off duty) LEO recently - the shooter with his LEO brother when it happened. The dead officer didn't ask for the weapon. 33 yrs old, 2 beatiful little kids and a wife left alone because he didn't ask and take the gun...We should all avoid doing or saying anything that reflects poorly on gun owners in any way. To do otherwise just further jeopardizes our 2nd Amendment rights. Respectfully SubmittedPosted 02-09-2012 at 20:06 by hankken
