Blog Genesis

Posted 12-07-2010 at 09:31 by gearjammer351

I clicked on the banner asking for bloggers, because I thought it might be fun to do. This is a test post to begin my blog. Once I've worked out the details of the blogging system, there will be more to come.

I shall use news stories and current events as topics to begin my rants...er...I mean commentary. I shall not write about sports or TV programs.

I will comment on contemporary topics from a masculine, libertarian perspective.

arizona in the fifties

Posted 12-06-2010 at 09:55 by Bill Powell (Bill's stories)

In Miami, Ariz in the fifties there were several ways to not be bothered by the various factions that roamed the streets. There were the red-necks, the Pachucos, the mixed member groups. The gang violence was not like today, but it was there. The last option was to be un-affiliated. If you chose that route you had to be on your toes. Being un-affiliated worked for me, but not so well for my brother.

He and my cousin, who visiting from the Marines, were walking in what passed...

Yelling "FIRE" in a crowded theater

Oftentimes, those who advocate for additional "common-sense" gun-control legislation, counter the Second Amendment's prohibition against the infringement of the right of the people to keep and bear arms with a canard of the anti-gun left, that is supposed to be an end-all argument in support of limiting the scope of the Second Amendment, by comparing that to a supposed limitation on the First Amendment's guarantee of freedom of speech .

Friends We've Never Met

Deep down inside, where we jealously guard our true feelings and speak of them only to ourselves in times of loneliness, emotional turmoil or great sadness, friends are what we covet. The need for a sympathetic ear, a nod of understanding, a voice of reason and enlightenment to a path of guidance are gifts that a true friend can provide and are as vital to our well being as the air we breath.

Some are fortunate, they are blessed...

1873 springfield

Posted 12-05-2010 at 16:25 by Bill Powell (Bill's stories)
Updated 01-11-2011 at 18:42 by Bill Powell

I just finished assembling a mod 1873 Springfield rifles for a guy. I had to re-build the lock plate assy. It had one of the old ground down lock plates from a mod 1861 Springfield muzzle loader, It is most likely one of the old surplus scrap pile rifles. The breech block is marked 1873, but the rifle has the buffington sight from the late model rifle, and the S/N suggests it was made in 1886.

Contrary to one thread running on this site, the Civil War did end, and the country was...
