In Gulag Moon, the story focuses on Zach Murphy's disastrous early military experiences as he learns first hand about being on the receiving end of technologically advanced weaponry. The action begins as the Mining Syndicate drops a thousand obsolete factory workers off in a forest, gulag style. To survive, the workers must learn to fend for themselves, and eventually, they must confront the Syndicate and fight.

Gulag moon is the prequel to my Chronos Military Science fiction series. I have a central character, Zach Murphy, throughout the series and I wanted to go back to when he was younger and show how disastrous his early experience with the local militia of Rybos Five really was. The novel starts off with the mining Syndicate dropping off a bunch of obsolete factory workers in a forest and follows their successful efforts to survive....

I enjoy action movies. Lately, my ten year old son and I have been especially immersed in science fiction with the Stargate series, but outside of that genre, I find myself revisiting a half dozen films for the fight choreography. For gunfights, Open Range, Tombstone, We Were Soldiers, and the Lost Battalion are at the top of my list. For martial arts, a lot of movies come to mind, but not all hold my attention.
It is ironic that several movies that I really enjoy the fight sequences...
