Private email. Here is the reality from a guy who went to exotic places in the world with his late wife at age 30. It will be no better in the US when shtf. We were sick about every 10 days. Sure, I could carry her pack if it was necessary. Similarly, she had to carry my pack at times. Extra weight cuts down on mobility, requires more water and food. I lost nearly 60 pounds in 6 months on the road.
Now I am in my 60s. I took a departing medic course. Guys young enough to be my gradchildren were tossing their rifles in 75 degree weather and sticking to a side arm.
I had the same attitude that you expressed. After a week on the road at age 30, I ditched a lot of equipment. It takes at least 6 weeks on walking to get into minimal shape.
