Who sells star wrenches for Benchmades?

My wife bought me a Griptilian last month for my birthday. Now I'm a lefty so I want to switch the clip to the other side. Only problem is Benchmade uses these teeny tiny star wrench screws to attach their clips...and NO ONE has wrenches that small around here.

I've checked Wal-Mart, Home Depot, Sears, etc...no luck.

So where do I find one small enough for these damn screws!?!

Does Benchmade sell them?

Thanks!

They use Torx fasteners. I got a little kit with a variety of torx bit sizes and one driver in a carry package. I'm not seeing that kit on the website right now, let me look a little more.

I mean if anyone has one...I'll pay shipping both ways just to borrow it. All I need to do is switch the clip from one side to the other.

Thanks again!

Try your local Sears. That's where I got the little Torx wrench to do the same thing to my CRKTs. Was like $3 IIRC.

See my original post. I already tried Sears...well...Sears Essentials.

I got my Torx driver at Lowes. came with about 8 different sizes in a little kit. Under $10 IIRC.

That's the one place I haven't tried around here. But they had one tiny enough for the Benchmade clip??

Thanks!

Yes. In fact, I bought mine specifically to tighten the Torx screws on my Benchmade knives. Mine is small, with the bits stored in the handle. Has four double-ended drivers that fit in the end of it. Here's a link:

Sounds good. I'll check Lowes out in the AM.

Thanks!

Torx for Benchmade

Benchmade makes a little kit that has the torx sizes they use. I got mine at my local Benchmade dealer. I can't remember how much it was, but don't think it was more than $10.

GlockontheRocks 01-16-2010 00:17

You might even try your local Harbor Freight store.

I needed the bit to fit the clip on a Kershaw Leek. I was going nuts trying to find one small enough to fit. All the ones in the hardware stores started in a bigger size than what I needed.
The Benchmade kit is so handy, I keep it in my truck console (because somebody at work is always needing to do something to a knife)

Benchmade Tool Kit

I just looked on ebay (Benchmade Tool Kit). The "buy it now" prices start at about $10.95 (+ $3.95 sh), but I think I paid less than that at Whittaker's in Kentucky.

I bought one of these sets from Home Depot on sale for $5 during the holidays. It has the correct size Torx bit for my CRKT, and probably has one for the Benchmade as well. :)

Sears for me too.

Harbor Freight large security bit set on sale for $7.99 I believe.

I have purchased a variety of Torx from Sears also.

TheLastDaze 01-24-2010 23:56

The size you're looking for is T6, your local Ace would carry it also..

Make sure you buy one with the super small bits, a lot of them stop at T8.

I think we've all been in your shoes.. frustrating for sure.. you think they'd send like an allen type wrench with the torx design with every knife..

TheLastDaze 01-25-2010 21:12

Update::

I was at Harbor Freight today and seen the Torx for 2.49, complete set of like 6 bits that go into the end of a screwdriver.

Re: Who sells star wrenches for Benchmades?

I had the same problem. Found one at Home Depot made by General. It came with a ton of bits and a zipper case for about $15 give or take. Worked on my Grip perfectly.
