Power Pistol Questions
I've been thinking of getting some Power Pistol to reload 9mm, 40 S&W, and 45 ACP. Anyone out there using it? Seems very versatile.

I use it for hot loads. Very fun powder with a big fireball.
|
I like it enough to have 7 pounds on hand. It does have more recoil and a louder bang than most other powders.
It meters very well out of a dillion. its a medium burner. You can use it for everything from mouse farts to barn burners. |
I use it in my JHP .45acp loads. The ones that are reserved for "special" use. See linky to thread from over at thehighroad.org. I love the pics in it:

Its a good "thumper" load, but not so good if your goal is a mild plinking load.
For most of my applications (IDPA for example, I'm just trying to make the required power factor for my chosen division -and never hotter than factory ammo for sure) I can usually find a better choice. |
I load power pistol in 9mm
I don't like to download 9mm much so powerpistol works well for me. I have tried some in .45 acp with the 230XTP hollow points. Same result. Powerfull and accurate. It's allows me to achive the velocity i want without loading to max. some say it's flashy but i've never been bothered by it. Some say it's loud. but so is any factory 9mm load. Good accuracy good velocity , meters well . It's my favorite for 9mm so far. |

Best shooting powder in my 40 so far. Loading 4.0 grains under a 180 gr bullet. Runs about 750fps out of a KKM barrel. Very pleasant to shoot.

I've used Power Pistol in 9mm, 45acp, 357 magnum and 40 S&W, works great.
|
I have used TiteGroup for 9mm and .40 S&W loads for several years, but tried a pound of Power Pistol recently. It did okay, but I'm going back to Titegroup as I think it's cleaner and with less muzzle flash and Titegroup will get you more loads per pound for comparable performance.

I tried it, liked it, but not enough for it to be a staple powder. Looks, smells, and tastes just like Bullseye, but man it ain't Bullseye! Lol...

They should not even be compared. Titegroup is a fast powder, Powder Pistol is a slow powder. Titegroup works great for loads up to mid level. My Max Load data from Hodgon has Titegroup @ 978 FPS with a 180 gr bullet. Allian has a Max Load of Power Pistol @ 1013 fps. Personally, I would not push Titegroup as hard as I would Power Pistol. For Mid Level Loads Titegroup is clearly more economical and a better choice. But it's not as bulky. Titegroup is a great powder. No doubt about it. |
a friend loaded some 9mm 124gr hornady fmj's......with power pistol...very accurate in my g19
