DoubleTap .45's
Just got a couple of boxes of 230 gr. for my G30. They fed without a problem and felt a bit hotter than standard 230's. As far as the chrono #'s DT claims, has anyone come close to their numbers?

I have never shot the DT 45 acp JHP loads. The 230 grain DT TMJ ball loads run good in my Glock 36. Not sure how fast they are in my Glock but they penetrate better in wood than most other ball loads. When I do take the 36 on walks it is usually loaded with two Hornady 230 grain TAP +P followed by five of the DT 230 grain ball loads.

I have never reached the adverised velocity with DT. Can be good ammo though. The last one I checked was a 40 S&W load. 135gr. Nosler, which was advertised to be 1,375fps out of a 4" gun, but I could not get above 1,325fps. It could be my gun, but the 135gr Corbon advertises 1,325fps and that is pretty much what I get out of the same gun.
I have not chronographed the 45 230gr. in a 5" barrel, but I find it hard to believe they reach 1,025fps without being at least +P and they are not rated so. |
I have chron'ed the 45ACP 185 jhp out of glock 21 and 1911 with 5 inch barrel
out of the glock 4.6 inch barrel 10 shot ave. 1119 fps out of colt 1911 5 inch barrel 10 shot ave 1128 fps the box says 1225 out of 5 inch 1911. hope this helps Jason |
I shot the DT 230 grain fmjfp over a chrony from a stock G21sf: 843 fps.
DT 230 grain GDHP gave 909 fps. |

I was surprised about it myself. The DT fmjfp in 45 auto has been my carry load when I go fishing. Now I'm looking to work up my own handloads for that purpose. I still like the GDHP load and IMO it does outperform the Speer loads I have used in the past.... at least as far as velocity and terminal performance on aggressive water jugs... ;) |
Just finally got around to trying them a couple months ago. I have been shooting their 9mm stuff for a couple years and have been very happy with them.
I tested 2 loads. First is the DT 230gr FP ammo. Out of a G21 they gave me 875 fps. Out of a G30 they gave me 815 fps. Second is the DT 230gr Gold Dot load. Out of a G21 they gave me 890 fps. Out of a G30 they gave me 860 fps. I was not terribly impressed with the FN loads and my shorter barrels. My hand loads beat that. 815 fps in a G30 is a long way from 1010. In fairness though, that is for a 5" barrel. However, the Gold Dot load is simply the finest carry load I ever fired out of my G30. This is a personal opinion and not a professional one. In terms of velocity, recoil, slide velocity, fast shooting in either hand and reliability, this quickly became my carry load. Though the velocity is not stunning, a Gold Dot at 860 fps under full control out of a G30 is a wonderful thing. |
