IPSC: are there a lot of shooter in Production Class?
got my first taste of IPSc style shooting yesterday. I shot it with my 1911,which i have very little time on and my score reflected it. Remembering to snap off the safety messed me up quite bit.
I much rather shoot my Mp or Glock 17 in production class. does this class get a lot of shooters? |
It probably depends on your location. At my local matches probably at least 1/3-1/2 of the shooters are production or L10 which is pretty similar you just get better score for shooting major in L10 vs. All Production is scored minor regardless of PF. A lot of shooters shoot IPSC/USPSA Production with the same gear they use for IDPA. Drop the cover garment and tack on a couple more mag pouches and go shoot.

Locally we get a lot. I bet 30-35% is Prod, 35% is Limited and the rest is spread out between the others.
I quit shooting revolver because there was not enough competition. Hated being a one man freakshow... |

We're 60-80% Production. by FAR the heaviest used Division in our area, with Limited being next, and then, by a dramtically smaller margin--Open.

With being able to get major out of a 9MM now I would expect 38 super open guns to be less popular with new open shooters. It might speed up the matches. Those .38 super guys spend a lot of time looking for that brass. |
A lot shoot production at my club including me, just a stock Glock 17.

Production Division (not "class"!) representation for May matches in Eastern Colorado:
AGC 21/59 (36%) PPPS 18/58 (31%) Rocky Mountain 300 31/133 (23%) (60+ rounds per stage and people still shot Production!) PSAC 19/54 (35%) CCPS 15/51 (29%) BRC 10/63 (16%) Your area may vary. Here, it feels well-represented. I shot Production most of 2009 and always had someone on my squad I could compete with. In fact there were (and are) enough B-class Production shooters to have a fun little rivalry  |
I started shooting production there in Renton last year using my Glock. Also use the same gun there for IDPA SSP.

The club I shoot with in NM is the opposite. We only have 3-4 production shooters out of the 20-30 people that shoot regularly. The majority of shooters are limited with a decent amount of open shooters.

I was at the match. Did better than i thought I would. My mistake was shooting everything IDPA style, like I am accustomed to. |

I am planning on attending my first USPSA club match this weekend. I have shot IDPA for years. Other than using cover, a cover garment, and tactical priority, what are the differences? Thanks, |

If your subconcious is set up for IDPA,like mine is,you are in for a rude surprise my freind. |

I shoot production...mainly because it comes closest to my carry. I don't knock folks with the race guns. Different people compete for different reasons. Many just like the fun & gun aspects of the sport. I chose to compete to improve my skills for carrying.

Why not check your local club's results to see where people are.
Around here it seems Productions gets the most by far, with Limited behind that. |

<g> Even with the PEs for dropping mags and not using cover, I whipped 'em...LOLOLOL. 'Tis better now. I've all but given up USPSA and run an IDPA club up here with a good following. Shoot both, it'll help! Dan |
I've been shooting USPSA and IDPA a long time. You can argue all sorts of differences between the 2 sports. The main difference, after everything is said and done, is that in USPSA you are given a problem to solve and you handle it within the rules..AKA freestyle. IDPA is more coreographed. Both are fun..take your pick and enjoy or do as I do..shoot both.
