Which .50 Cal is great for a 1st .50 Cal owner?
I'm writing to ask .50 BMG owners, which is the .50 BMG rifle they recommend as a first .50 BMG owner?
I have never shot a .50 BMG but I would like to own one since I just became a member at a shooting range.
Do you recommend the .50 cal upper that can be put on an AR lower?
Any information you could provide would be helpful.
Depends on how much money you want to spend, look at the Armalite AR-50, Serbu BFG-50, State Arms/East Ridge Gun Co. for a good entry level rifle.
As far as upper go I would avoid the BOHICA upper, look at the Ferret 50, Taclite, ALS, Ultramag50 or Ultralite50. One of the companies changed their name as they sold it to another Co., also look up Safety Harbor.
Just remember that some of these can cost as much as a regular bolt gun. And don't worry about it damaging the AR lower, to date I haven't heard of any lowers being damaged from a 50 BMG upper being attached.
Start with a Alexander Arms AR-15 Upper Assembly in .50 Beowulf.
Probably run you $750ish depending where you buy the upper from.
Great suggestion!!! I have been looking at Alexander Arms for a while since I was interested in the Grendel... But I never thought about the Beowulf... I will research it...
What do you like about the caliber?
Thanks to both of you... Gave me alot to think about...
Just remember that there is nothing even close in the two rounds, 1) A 50 BMG is a heavy machinegun round and 2) the 50 Beo is a big pistol round and has no where near the power that the 50 BMG does.
The 50 BMG can be shot out to 2000+ yards and take out a target, the 50 Beo can get out to a couple hundred yards. Like I said, it all depends on how much you want to pay to play.
From the line...
Looking at the 2K target...
Rounds on target...
