226 vs 229 in a .357
In my quest to attain one solid handgun in each of the major calibers as a way to start off my collection I am turning my research towards the 357sig caliber. If I understand correctly the 357sig was made to be paired with the 229 (or vice versa? :dunno:) I currently have a 229 in a .40 so I was wondering what a 226 chambered in the 357sig was like?

Just buy a 357 Conversion barrel for your P229 & start spending the dough on ammo..

What he said. Buy a .357 then buy a .40cal for the same pistol. Presto chango you got 2 calibers. Then pick up a 226 in .357 and do the same. You'll have 2 pistols, 4 barrels and can shoot 2 calibers from each pistol reliably.

I would also agree with sig 229; get the factory .357sig barrel for your 229, I think I got mine through top gun supply, but check around for the best price, TGS has my backing in that they always ship to me very quickly.

The 226 is a little longer and heavier, but I think it shoots pretty similarly to the 229. If I had found a 229 as cheap as my 226 and got it first I would have passed on the 226. Other than a slight muzzle and therefore velocity increase the 226 has a slightly longer sight radius maybe a tad more controllable from the slight weight increase. Like you said, the 229 was built for the .357sig or visa versa and the only thing that will give away your barrel change is your sig box (to my knowledge)

Both those Sigs are great pistols. :)
