Anything new regarding the 5.7?
This section is a ghostland.... so for the sake of possibly generating some activity I have some questions.
Has there been any new ammunition developed by FN, or have there been any other companies loading less expensive ammo for the 5.7? I recall a few years ago, there was a rumor that a Russian company was to produce ammo at a lower cost. It seems every time a FN Five Seven comes up for sale in the firearms for sale area, they get snapped up pretty quickly. I currently own a new USG after having sold an IOM some time back. While I can understand the merits of the pistol, it's curious to me that for a pistol and cartridge that's seeming looked down upon, they sell. Any thoughts? |
I suspect that the same reason for inactivity here also holds for the relative inactivity of the Glock Longslide and Sub subforums, as well as the Makarov and XD subforums. No owners are having problems worth griping about or experiences that seem noteworthy.
For my part, I have nothing to say because I own no 5.7 firearms nor plan to get one soon. I am merely a curious observer in the matter...... |
No problems at all with my 5.7 pistol.
Plan to get 5.7 top for my AR after new years. Maybe reload in 2011. :wavey::wavey: |
On a couple of other forums, I've seen some pics of 4 new 5.7 weapons. It's not a big manufacturer, however. So, it remains to be scene if the quality is decent.
Apparently they will be 2011 releases |

Thanks everyone for the replies.
Very interesting looking new firearms. Hopefully they will spark more interest in the 5.7 cartridge. I just saw that another Five Seven pistol sold in the firearms section. It seems that the 5.7 is the Rodney Dangerfield of the firearms world..... no respect. That said, they seem to sell and hold value pretty well. |

I rented a 5-7 at the range a little while ago. it was a fun round to shoot, but I really did not care for the 5-7 pistol itself.....plus seems a bit spendy for what you get.

I love mine.
Its a blast to shoot. :) |
I recently decided to get a 57 pistol and p90, my next two projects after my department tested what the round does to a vest.
|
I searched but did not find anything for 5.7 ballistic gel results. anyone have a link? not an owner but am interested. thank you!

I had a 5.7 pistol and loved it. But the fact of the matter is they are expensive to shoot and you will be hard pressed to find a place that will let you shoot it inside. They are nice for the rounds they hold and the vest penetration. But I traded mine for a more practical G23.

My only real "gripe" with the caliber is the fact that outside of "Elite", the only significant source of ammo is F.N. itself.
This fact and F.N's insistence on loading "lead free" primers is a definite down side to me, and holds me back from future purchases of arms and ammo in this caliber. |

Old example but VCR won over BETA -- a better technology -- by embracing all those involved in the industry rather than trying to do it all themselves as Sony attempted. Long story made too short. Hate to see the 5.7 languish. Do wonder if FN licensed the round to all reputable manufacturers would that help bring the cost down and get the popularity up? Seems like there must be a frangible 5.56 round available to load into a 5.7. Excuse me if I have brought up things already hashed out. |

SHooting a rifle inside of an indoor range isn't much fun. But, I have done it a couple of times to sight in a laser. |
I bought myself a new 5.7 for Christmas....with the goal of a PS90 as the next dream gun. Shipwreck is not helping prevent this next move with his great advice.....and owning two!!:whistling:

I can reload my 9mm to attain 2200 fps, for such occasions as demand that velocity, and practice with the much cheaper 9mm ammo;. So why would I tie up all that cash in a 5.7? RBCD and MagSafe sell 2300 fps ammo for the 9x23 Win, and 2200 fps for .45, for 357 Sig, .38 Super, while allowing cheap practice with standard rounds.

Because we can!
:tongueout: |
Glad to see the response....you beat me to it!

An old thread but I'll pop it back up to the top. I have a couple of PS90s and my indoor range lets me shoot them on the handgun lane (yeah, only 15 yards but better than nothing). With 50 round mags they are really fun to shoot. I buy ammo by the case and get 2000 rounds shipped to me for $730 which isn't bad (in my opinion). My PS90s have been with me a long time unlike other guns I've churned. I have the triple rail models (one black and one ODG) with Aimpoint H-1 optics. One has a LaserMax Uni-Green also. I love bullpups.

As someone who has had an interest in the gun/round for a long time, specifically for a ski pistol, I think the thing that sort of holds it back is the obvious; cost, but also, when it first came out, all sorts of outrageous claims were made about it supposed superiority to every ballistic concoction from the .22 LR to the .600 Nitro Express.
Then little by little folks started using them and found they are what they are; high speed .22's, good for what a highspeed .22 is good for, but not necessarily the Be All and End All of pistol rounds. For myself, I mulled it over for some years and then recently bought a G20 specifically for my ski pistol. I am still curious about the 5.7 tho and might yet get one. 20 rounds of relatively high velocity .22 has a lot of useful applications for me. |
I'm seeing them locally for around $975 to $1050, but I still hesitate since I'm not sure how easy it is to find ammo.
And like it has been stated, is there any use other than fun target shooting? |
