Help! My cat has bad breath.
Have a 6 month old bengal cat with bad breath. Does not appear to be sick or have any dental issues. Can anything be done to remedy the stink? Any info appreciated.

Possible infection of some sort, but vet should be consulted to be sure.
Try posting in Woof Memorial Critter's Corner, somebody there might know something. |
Just stop kissing her on the mouth.

Tic Tacs.

Update. Smells bad on the other end now. When she takes a dump she won't cover it up. Bright side is she does crap in the litter box. Oh well. One issue at a time I guess... :)

Tums, maybe? Pretty kitty. My black kitty(mixed breed, barn cat, saved when the barn burned down 11 yrs ago) has sometimes on/off odor too. Been to vet and can't recall any special diet or meds. Good luck.

hmmmmm. isn't that normal? |
Is this preventing your cat from getting dates?
I think YOU are more worried the cat's breath than the cat! I say it's normal. My cat also has bad breath but I've trained her to yawn and meow away from my face. Also, very cute cat. |

She's not covering it up with litter. I am not sure how I can teach her to cover up the poop.. :( And it's preventing ME from getting dates! |
That is very odd. Cats will usually bury their scat based on instinct (hides their presence from predators). Have you tried switching to a different type of litter? Some cats don't like the crystals if that's what you're using. Try something finer.

that may be a good suggestion. perhaps moving the box to a different location might be in order; a location that is comfortable for the kitty. |
Bad breath and back-end odors are probably medical issues. A vet needs to check out the cat. Anal glands might be impacted and need to be emptied (preferably under anesthesia), causing an odor. Diabetes can cause bad breath, so it's another medical issue.

Oh, and I get why this is in the "Furball Forum". Well played.

Don't dismiss the bad breath, it could be an infection of some sort and could cause really bad issues......mine had the same thing.....took care of it too late and it took care of my cat in the form of a rampant infection that started with her teeth that got into her blood stream.

I recommend rimfire rounds as they are cheap...

I've never met a cat that didn't have "bad" breath. So do most dogs; some worse than others.
The other end smells bad too? Well....how pleasant is yours? Doesn't sound like pets are for you. |
