OK Colt fans, is this a rare find?

Some idiot colored in the roll marks, but that can be removed. Someone that knows their Colt 1911 history, tell me if I found a winner or a junker. All serial numbers match up too.

Sweet,.......would be a HELL of a base for a build!

prez1967 10-25-2012 16:53

$950? Sounds like a nice price for an Original GI A1 with matching numbers... I wish i lived closer to the middle of america :(

glock2740 10-25-2012 16:54

It's a 1943 serial #.

glockin-45 10-25-2012 17:05

Nice find! To bad no one on here would want it though with that mark on it.

banger 10-25-2012 17:09

I'd say the only ding" against it is that the grips have been replaced.

Other than that, it looks like a good find to me.

As far as the price goes, it seems like a lot of money, but heck a good condition M-1 carbine will set you back approx. $750.00 now days.

Ahhhh, for the days I used to buy those things for $75.00 with ammo thrown in as a "deal sweetener".

fnfalman 10-25-2012 23:09

I thought that M1911s of said vintages already sported the brown plastic grips?

Rally Vincent 10-26-2012 00:45

Um, that would be a hell of a base for a sweet build.

Another vote to keep it as is. I'd replace the recoil spring ans shoot it alot though.

They did, but grips are easily changed.

They did, but if Joe is going to get some work done to it, it won't matter anyway.

That would be a great one to send to Ted and Jason, have it come back looking like this. :faint:

glock2740 10-26-2012 08:55

I was hoping it was a rare find that I would keep all original. Apparently it's just an old beater Colt GI. :crying: I already have a buyer that will let me get my money back out of it. It'll be gone today. :wavey:

Hurricanes 10-26-2012 09:15

That is a beauty.

That's a great looking gun.

Glock_en_speil 10-26-2012 20:29

I'm not a Colt historian but that pistol is definitely NOT a junker. I would keep it as is but if you decide to have it restored do it properly by sending it to Turnbull Manufacturing in NY state. Doug Turnbull is doing some of the best work in the country on original Colt 1911 including his famous charcoal blue finishes (when applicable).
