The perfect 1911?
 

Well, at least for me. It has to do double duty. IWB for trips (anyone carry a 1911 with a rail CC?) and nightstand duty.
So, I'm looking for an officers model (or bobtailed full length, dunno) 4.25" ish barrel, with accessory rail. Preferably light weight frame. Don't like stainless. Will a full size mag fit in an officers' frame? I really like the STI Spartan IV, but no rail.
~$1000 and down. Anyone make one? Thanks...

They are out there, but IMO a rail on a pistol like that, takes a wide open field of both guns and holsters and narrows it down abruptly in both categories.

IWB typically is not conducive to any HG with a rail and/or accessory mounted on it.

Buy 2 guns, one cannon for the nightstand (may I suggest a Glock 21 with a rail mounted laser/flashlight), the other one to IWB carry. 1911's typically only hold 7-8 rounds in standard form-- over that you need a 1911 modified (Para).

With some good shopping , you can still stay under $1000.

It doesn't fit all you're requirements but this one to me, is "a" perfect 1911.

It has 4.25" barrel, shorter grip length like the OACP, night sights with a slight rounding of the butt. No rail, but then I can use a flashlight in my support hand. A little more than your budget but highly worth it.

Another perfect 1911 to me is a Combat Commander. Cost is below your budget, however it lacks a few things you wanted such as rail and bobbed backstrap. Does have 4.25" barrel with a full sized grip.

Springfield Armory makes a Champion Operator,.....should suit
your needs very well.

Have you looked at Sig 1911 C3?

Nothing is 'perfect' until you go custom and get exactly what YOU want. I've tried every top-tier maker and spent countless thousands. Perfection happens after having a top smith build the perfect 1911 based on your specific wants/needs.

Okay, the SA Champion shows full length frame. Same with the Colt Commander. The CCO is a great gun, but the only way I can drop that kind of coin is if it was exactly what I wanted. Call me crazy, but I don't like the extractor on the C3. To each their own.
I actually do have a Gen 4 21 w/ a TLR-1s for nightstand duty, and a G29 for CC. I really hoped that gun existed. I'm just one of those people that would rather have one pistol that fits my needs, and shoot it a lot. Oh well...
If I had to pick one right now I would probably go with the Spartan IV, anyone have one that can tell me about it?

I have to second this. You will stick to a budget, get part of what you want then spend to get the rest. By the time you are finished you will have about as much invested if you just went custom from the begining.

I understand what you're saying, I did that with my AR and AK. But there is a lot of difference between the top of the line 1911 and a top of the line anything else.
I work for the state (pretty good retirement. not great pay) and have 3 young boys. Starting with a beginners piece and having work done on it as I go is more feasible for my family.
Now, back to it. Seriously considering the SA Lieghtweight Champion Operator. Four things...
1) Anyone have one, good dependable gun?
2) Can I get it bobtailed later?
3) Guestimate on the cost?
4) Anyone know of a good gunsmith within a couple of hours of W KY?

Yes it can be bobtailed. A good pistol smith should charge about $225
not counting refinishing.

Trying to figure out the difference between the Sig Extreme and the Sig Tac ops. Front serations and straight trigger seems the only difference which the Extremet has???????????

I'm not aware of anyone making a railed CCO. If you want a rail you'll have to deal with the longer grip and vice versa.

Thanks for all of your help guys, I guess what I'm wanting just doesn't exist. I'm going to stick with the Glocks for now, although the LGS had a Sig P220 that is very nice, I didn't like the feel of it in my hands.
Well, maybe someday someone will offer what I want, or I'll have the funds to go custom.
