Need help finding a 1911 in 9mm.
Hello all, The thread name explains it well. I know there are some out there and I figure someone in this group will know to find them all! I prefer the 1911 platform to any other handgun, 9mm ammunition is inexpensive and being a long-time Glock fan I have way too much 9mm brass, powders, recipes, etc. km |
Love my STI Ranger II in 9mm. They have a few models in this caliber.
|
Dan Wesson Guardian 9mm works great for me. I modified mine quite a bit, but even stock was nice. I recommend wilson combat 9mm mags though.

Springfield Armory makes a 9mm model.

Hello KM, owners seem to really like the various STI 9MMs. I have handled a couple of the different 9MM STI models. Seemed like very solidly built and well finished guns to me. Probably try one myself one of these days.
I have had good luck with the Kimber Target IIs in 9MM ( owned more than one of these), and the 9MM Dan Wesson PM-9 pistols. Not such good luck with out of the box Springfields, although I have an older custom SA 9MM that is excellent. I've had 9MM Colts in the Commander and Government versions, also good guns after a little tuning for reliability. 1911s in 9MM are considered wierd, or just plain wrong, by a lot of shooters and shops, so I rarely find one in stock. I usually have to check the auction sites, GB, etc to locate 9MM 1911s. Attached a photo of my current 9MM 1911s. All reliable, in spite of what some self-anoited 1911 experts say on the internet, accurate and fun...ymmv |
Talo Edition Colt Government Model 9mm.
Or standard Colt Defender/New Agent in 9mm. |
What is your budget?, STI Spartan is a basic 1911 that has more than the basics and still very affordable.
|
I have a Springfield Arms EMP and love it. Very smooth and accurate, with minimal recoil.

I have had excellent service from the following 9mm 1911's. Most of them were commanders.
Colt 9mm and 38 super, another 9mm on the way now Colt Defender 9mm Kimber, Aegis pro, and Tactical Pro STI, Ranger and Guardian Bul Transmark, Commander Para LTC, very accurate, but had to have some reliability work to run right For low budget it is hard to beat a Rock Island or a Star model B, BKM, or BKS Springfield are great, but I have only owned them in 45acp STI has a wide selection of 9mm pistols to choose from and they build a great pistol Good luck with your search |
S&W Pro 1911 9mm

My Wife purchased a Colt New Agent in 9mm and I have to say it is verry good. At the range each of the RO's had to take a look and let them run some rounds through. Postive remarks on all features. Of course a tweak here or there will still be in order.

You won't find any at my house. ;)

I just bought the Colt Defender 9mm. Can't wait to pick it up next week and give it a whirl.
The only sucky part is the limited availability of magazines. You either get Colt brand, Metalform or Wilson Combat. |

It may be a bad word to some but I have a Taurus PT 1911 9mm and I really like it. It was very reasonable in price. Just another option for you.
|
Rock Island Armory also has a 1911 in 9mm. I have the Tactical model and it performs very nicely.

Lots of good options out there these days. What's the intended use? Carry? Range toy? That will obviously influence your decision.
That said, I recently picked up an old series 70 Colt that may have been unfired. Beautiful gun but will get fired occasionally only. I also just recently picked up my new STI Lawman in 9mm. I believe last year was the first year they offered it in that caliber. To say I'm impressed with it would be an understatement. It's my first STI product but it won't be my last. It's incredibly fun to shoot. Accurate, well built, etc... I'd highly recommend anything from them. Just my $0.02 EDIT: fnfalman, STI ships with metalforms. I bought 4 extra when I ordered the gun. All work flawlessly in the STI and the Colt. I just thought it would be worth noting. |
I am interested in the RIA TCM. It comes with a 9mm barrel but also has a .22 caliber barrel necked down from 9mm. I could see ammo for the .22 being hard to find but it would be pretty simple to make if you reload.
I would imagine it would be a pretty awesome range toy and fair substitute for a medium range weapon (PDW). Not a lot of experieance with the RIA gun's but they seem pretty popular and get good reviews as a low cost 1911 option. |

I love my Kimber Aegis Custom.

My LGS has a new Kimber target model on the shelf for $969.00, I'm trying to convince myself I don't need it.
