pro gone, now ive gotten into another fine mess
 

i recently got rid of my pro. nothing wrong with it at all, i just needed a railed 1911 and a 18 month wait for another pro was not going to cut it. looked at a few of the full railed operators that came up, thought about getting a trp operator made with standard novak sights, but i bided my time knowing something eventually would come up.

my patience paid off. on another forum this popped up:

a sig blackwater 1911. the orignal owner purchased it new, fired 25 rounds through it, cleaned it and put it in the safe. three of the four magazines had never been removed from the plastic and you could not tell it had ever been fired except from the factory. i set out to correct that blasphemy the next day.

this was my first 25rds at 7 yds. it handles very well, the machining done on it is surprisingly clean, and the trigger is actually pretty good. the slide to frame fit is not as tight as i would like, the trigger has some up and down play, and the magwell screw loosened up and came out. but, it seems like a solid base to do some small additions to. i know, the purists will hate the rail and external extractor but there are no fcs...

Maybe he was speaking of a Kimber Pro 4" and not to SA Professional. That would make more sense to me.

I don't think you're going to wait 18 months for a Kimber. ;)

I'm with Greg. Congrats on a nice 1911, but wow.

trust me, the sig was not a straight replacement for a pro. proceeds from the pro went to help my daughter buy another car. it went to a good home and now is the duty weapon of an officer in a major southern city.

Makes perfect sense,.......just jerkin your chain.

The Sig 1911ish pistols are great shooters, Sig got the external extractors
to work where Kimber never could. I tried to find a Blackwater
model a while back.......never could find one.

Good point, I missed that. Sig makes a nice 1911 gun for the $$. I just wish they would expand on their tradition series.

I agree. Though I do own one, I never cared for the styling of the slide. I prefer a more traditional 1911.

round count is now up to 400 without cleaning after the initial application of froglube. i need to now get a 18-20lb recoil spring.

What do you think of the Froglube?

sorry, been a while before i could revisit the thread. the froglube seems to work as advertised. i am up to 650rds without cleaning. the only thing i noticed is that unlike clp, if something has a light rust on it, the froglube will not remove it. i need to find out a little more about this and about fireclean as well. here is a recent (as in a couple days ago) pic.

i added a wilson combat 64G 18lb spring/flgr/shok buff kit, removed the series 80 parts, and added a kimber two hole trigger with take-up tabs. i only wanted an 18-20lb recoil spring but the kit was all that was in stock at the gun shop. it will disassemble with a bushing wrench or by using a baseplate to press the plug down so it is not a big deal to field strip.

broke the baseplate on the wc mag in the lower left during a mag change and it hit the concrete. good thing i have an extra or two.
